Also be sure to check out counties in realms like Germany, etc., who are 'independent' and have no master (Anhalt comes to mind - Somehow it is independent when it should be subservient to Saxony). Title history will have that info. So far the list of counties and duchies I see (primarily in Germany/HRE) that are independent but should not be --

1066 Anhalt, Pfalz, Holland, Saxony [Luneburg] all listed as independent or not showing as part of the HRE.

1066 bookmark has two Hungarian vassals not shown as part of Hungary.

935, Gloucester/Hwicce is independent. Should be a vassal of England.

1066 has Robert d'Anjou as Duke of Salerno, and so Duke of Salerno cannot be chosen as a playable character past then.

1066 Porto is listed as a vassal of Leon. Should be a vassal of Galicia.

Lychidnos is listed as independent in 1066.

1066 Apulia is listed as a vassal to the Byzantines when it should be independent.

I'll let you know if I see anymore. These are likely as a result of titular changes in regards to 935 AD which may very well be suited to that. If you don't start in any bookmarks past then, not an issue. I am just saying what I see here as a consequence of titular changes made. 935 is a very accurate looking start regardless.

Looks really good though! First time playing this mod and I am very impressed.

Naturally later bookmarks likely look silly as I said in Q&A section but I did notice that few provinces you mentioned seem to lack government form in AD 935.

I can tweak some histories but since this MOD is a bookmark for this particular year, later bookmarks looking weird are not a great issue in my opinion.

No kingdom of Nekor? That realm was decently powerful and probably deserves to be a duke.

Actually it seems there is discontinued d_el_rif titular title and flag in vanilla game folders so I just gave that to current holder of El Rif/Nassen which represents this area (along with couple of claims) and I made him tributary of Fatimids so he is not roflstomped immediately. I also gave him a sunni norse courtier for shit and giggles since it was once occupied by Vikings for a period so you can make a culture change there.

As for Lausitz, I fix it and for Hungary, there is no hardcoding. I have seen them go both catholic and Muslim (due to heir being married to Muslim) at some stages so it can go either way.

Realms being tributaries seem to affect that realms get bugged, as this was the case with every single one.

Right now it seems that only dynasty flags are somehow all wrong. If anyone has an idea why this is so, let me know. Version 2.1 is now available on front page.

Oh yeah, no, the title histories is not a huge deal, I agree. It's more a cosmetic issue than anything. You're doing a great job either way. Very impressive.

Still, do be sure to take a look at some of the major ones, like k_france.txt, and change for example:

#Bosonids
923.6.15={
holder = 7995 #Raoul (Rudolph)
law = investiture_law_1
law = succ_feudal_elective
}
}

to
#Bosonids
923.6.15={
holder = 7995 #Raoul (Rudolph)
law = investiture_law_1
law = succ_feudal_elective
}

Go through title histories, make sure de_jure_liege is proper, etc. :)

I forgot to change France. Will do it tomorrow.

Let me know if you spot any other weird stuff in AD 935. Right now I wonder if I should redo dynasty list to fix the flags...

If you're going to do that, switch around the dynastic coat of arms for the "De Bourbon" dynasty in 00_dynasties.txt. The generic De Bourbon dynasty gets the actual dynastic flag, whilst the properly royally descended one gets a random COA. Redoing the dynasty list may not be a bad idea. Simply search for "De Bourbon", then for dynasty 329 remove the COA entry and paste it for dynasty 100146.

Not sure of the Ghurids should be subservient to the Samanids in 935 AD as it is a strange 'spot' in an otherwise coherent dynasty. Speaking of subservience, be sure to fix Gloucester's placement as 'independent' of England in 935. Fixed in my version with a quick de_jure change.

I'll keep an eye out for anything else I see. Otherwise, looking like it's shaping up nicely.

Another possible suggestion I may add is for the Jannabids and their followers to be considered Kharijites instead of Hurufi Muslims. Considering the historical basis for this is that Hurifism did not exist until the 14th century AD, it makes little sense for them to be the Sultans of Arabia in the 10th century. Kharijite would make more sense, also given the historical actions of Abu-Tahir al-Jannabi, most notably his wars against Sunnis and Shiites which earned him much ire of the Caliph and Muslims in the 10th century Arabian peninsula.

Interesting premise. I think that'd work well.

But then that dynasty would never actually convert as happened historically since with current mechanics only unreformed pagans/Zoroastrians can convert vs holy war unless by random event via sympathy x trait. So there are many things to consider when making these things.

That's true, yes. I don't have experience in making individual bookmarks for the dates, but it is important to consider the consequences of changing round something as important as a dynasty. A forced conversion event might work if you want to railroad things a bit. But that's obviously optional.

Putting current dynasty file from current vanilla game and re-inserting dynasties done for MOD has fixed the dynasty flags. I also removed the extra bracker from k_france.

I will ponder a bit about what to do with Ghurids and then upload latest and hopefully final version of the MOD for Conclave period. If people want to give their opinions, then answer this:

Should Ghurids (Currently Persian Zunist, holding d_zabulistan & c_mandesh as independent rulers) be changed? If yes

Should culture be a) Persian b) Afghan c) Turkish d) Something else (why?)
Religion a) Zunist b) Buddhist c) something else (why?)
Should they be a) independent b) vassals

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghurid_dynasty

From what I've read, they were most likely Tajiks, but IDK if adding an entire culture just for one dynasty would be a very good choice, though if you go trough that course, maybe have a line from Mandesh to the Pamir as Tajik, separating the Afghans from Sogdians. Also, keep them Zunist, might be better for gameplay.

My opinion on the Ghurids is that whatever we do will be some sort of guesstimate since there is a lack of historical sources until Islamic powers took control.

Their land area is correct, but I would change them to be Buddhist because in EJ Brill's series on Islam he quoted that when the Islamic powers conquered the Ghurids and took aay Muhammad ibn Suri, he was noted as practicing Buddhist beliefs. On culture, I am not as sure but my best idea would be that they were a Persian group because history says they were descended from Tajik people who were more Iranian than Afghan. They should definitely be independent.

Afghan Buddhist, and most likely as vassals, simply because we don't know much about them until Islamic powers took control as @tsf4 said. So presumably they would be similar to other 'local' rulers in the region. But Zunist could also be acceptable.

I go with this:

- Independent, Persian, Zunist with sympathy for Islam & Dharmic religions trait and married to Buddhist courtier (who will become default educator of the heir, making him more likely to be Buddhist).

I also gave him courtiers of other religions to court so players can go any route they want with this particular realm. Those traits likely mean he will go Muslim or Dharmic quite rapidly. Mandesh province religion stays Zunist pagan to simulate multiple faiths present and defensive advantage of the area.

There is also a temple holding in Mandesh now, held by vassal Muslim and city holding is held by a buddhist vassal.

I also changed dynasty CoA to a buddhist one :D

This probably makes it a relatively interesting starting place.

New version has been uploaded to frontpage

Changes done for v_2.3

- Boyan of Vidi has received "Wolf's blood" since historically he was accused of being one. So have fun playing with wizard*/heretic/werewolf who has claim to kingdom of Bulgaria :D
- Ruler of Beirut was changed to member of Tanukhid dynasty (culture Greek, religion Shiite (for possibility of going Druze later). He was given claim of Baalbek too.
- Fixed dynasty flags so you no longer see European CoA's in Afghanistan, etc. (do let me know if you see any more)
