I have a question for KaRei regarding version Mod Launcher 1.0.3

I am running a system that uses Windows Vista. When first I ran ML, the program would stop working while trying to back up the video files. I ended up getting past this point by creating the default video files that ML was getting stuck on. This allowed me to get to the main page. From here, everything looks normal.

However, after I select a mod (or vanilla EU) to run, the program will stop working when it tries to pre-initialize the video. As of now, I had no real idea what to do to remedy the problem. Any suggestions?

Hi Raiten,
from what you wrote, it seems to me like you have AVI folder "read-only". This would explain that other files are handled by ML without problems and it fails just on the video files, although I didn't encounter a problem with backuping video files even when the AVI folder is "read-only". It crashes to me only during the pre-initialization. On the other hand, I have only informations from WinXP and attributes on Vista can be more strict and can cause crashes already during the backup.
So my advice is to review the attributes of the AVI folder and of the video files inside. To be sure what is causing the crashes, try use this alpha of 1.0.4: download
It should tell where is the problem. What does it say?

To play the game before the problem is found and fixed, older Mod Launcher 1.0.2 should work for you: download

Okay, I'll try to summarize this up as quick as possible.
Using the 1.0.4a download, I was able to locate and solve the problems. So everything is good. Thanks a lot.
Although, I have one question for you. When I ran the Mod launcher for the first time, it told me where the read-only files were (in the AVI folder, as you thought). However, it managed to still start up the mods and the vanilla EU, even with these error messages. Did you design 1.0.4a to be able to do this, or is this action unexpected on your part?

Glad to hear it helped find the problem. :)

Yes, this is how that alpha was supposed to work.

hello,

i just downloaded modlauncher to play roma universalis...i have windows XP with SP2, and for some reason, whenever it gets to "pre-initializing map", modlauncher crashes. i went into my EU2 folder to check, and nothing under "maps" is checked as "read only" so what am i doing wrong?

same thing happens when i try to launch EU2 vanilla through modlauncher. i have version 1.09

People are having troubles with read-only files, where older Mod Launcher crashes without saying a reason.
To help solve this, Mod Launcher 1.0.4 has been recently released. It has just added informative message boxes that will tell you what's wrong and with which file. Compared to its alpha version, it enables user to choose whether continue in launching anyway or exit Mod Launcher to fix the trouble. ;)

With el_dude we solved the problem through PMs. It was in read-only colorscales.

For now Mod Launcher isn't able to handle Time Unlimited Patch mods together with mods without this patch. In this case you must still create a copy of Eu2, apply the patch on it and put all mods that are using the patch inside this new Eu2. Then place one copy of Mod Launcher inside the first Eu2 and second copy of Mod Launcher inside the second Eu2.
Mod Launcher is going to support Time Unlimited Patch in some of its next releases.
Hi, first of all thanks for your great tool. :)

The quote above seems to imply that playing AGCEEP, for instance, with an unlimited time patched EU2 exe is not possible. I am using at the moment AGCEEP and my own medieval mod with a patched exe together with you mod launcher, do you know of any problems it could cause? I haven't had any so far.

Hi, glad you like it. :)

The quote seems to be misleading. I'll remove it from the manual.

It shouldn't cause problems to launch mod with Time Unlimited Patch applied. :)
What I was trying to say is that the patch takes effect also on mods you want launch without the Time Unlimited.
I'd like to make it possible to launch one mod with Time Unlimited and another without it.
That's what I was speaking about - you can make all mods using Time Unlimited, or all mods not using it, but you can't decide within one Eu2 folder that this one mod won't use it while others will. :)

It's wrongly written. :eek:o

There is a new Mod Launcher available (version 1.0.5).
It should remove problems with music in mods.

The problem was in redirecting (path in music.ini file). It was causing crashes in Mod Launcher, when you launched mod that is using mostly its own music (like mod Roma Universalis). Mod Launcher tried redirect music.ini to the mod music folder to spare some time and there it crashed. The bug was present however only on some machines. I wasn't able to induce the bug on any PC I have at home, so I removed the redirecting functionality and the new version of Mod Launcher now simply copies the missing MP3s to the vanilla music folder.

It's not so elegant and it may take a bit more space, but it's more stable now.

I have a problem. When I try to load a mod, in this case Watkaboi, the game crash when it’s trying to initializing graphics. I’ve tried everything of help I could find in this forum.

I didn’t have any problems with this some months ago, I guess when I used the Mod Launcher 1.0.4.

Anyone got a clue about what I should do? Or what the stupid problem is?

Try whether you can launch the mod outside the Mod Launcher, eg. make a shortcut to Eu2.exe and in its properties modify the field "Target" like this:
Code:
"C:\Program Files\Paradox Entertainment\Europa Universalis II\Eu2.exe" [color=yellow]WATKABOI[/color]
Instead of WATKABOI write the name of folder where is the mod (it may be different than what I wrote).

I tried that, but still got the same problem =/

Then it must be in Eu2 installation or in the mod itself.
Can you give me a link where you got your version of WATKABOI?

I'm not tracking WATK, so I don't know of the clones it has.
I know there is WATK and WATK African Beta (WATKAB). Dunno whether WATKABOI is WATKAB or it's something else. More than that, in download forum is WATKABOI MP
It's hard to take the right version ^^;

I got it from here: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?t=252750

The same link, the same downloads and everything as I used earlier

Thanks

So the mod works to me without any problem.
Maybe your files are corrupted or maybe, if you was reinstalling Eu2, you forgot on 1.09 patch. If this isn't the case, try reinstall the mod and if it won't help, reinstall Europa Universalis II itself.

Jesus! How stupid am I? I actually forgot to install the 1.09 patch, although I had downloaded it. Anyway, thanks for the help. I appreciate it :)

does anyone have any idea why mod launcher won't recognize the WATKABAOI 1.82?

Here is what I did:

I. Install Game
II. Apply 1.09 Patch
III. Apply Unlimited Time Patch

IV. Install mod

V. Place Mod Launcher in the EU2.exe directory. Created Shortcut and place on desktop. I also uncheck "read-only" for EU2 folder and all sub directories.

When I start mod launcher, it only detects vanilla EU2.

Any thoughts? Am I missing a step?

I am using the latest version of Mod launcher.

KaRei will certainly answer as soon as possible but maybe Mod Launcher doesn't like the dot in "WATKABAOI_1.82" folder name (just a guess). Did you try without the dot?

Seems the installation of WATKABAOI ended in a wrong directory.

After installing the mod, scenarios should be found somewhere like here:
...\Europa Universalis 2\WATKABAOI_1.83\Scenarios\*.eug

If Mod Launcher doesn't find the mod, probably there is an extra level in the folder structure:
...\Europa Universalis 2\WATKABAOI_1.83\WATKABAOI_1.83\Scenarios\*.eug

Check, whether the mod's location is correct.
If the mod's path is like on the second example, try moving whole WATKABAOI directory by one level up, so it will correspond with the first example.
