There is actually a lore reason for the vast Lithuanian Catholic Kingdom. According to Lore, the Romuva (pagan Baltic faith) were actually in control of most of eastern Europe, from Poland to the Zarist lands, for a few centuries after the Event. Eventually however the Popes took exception and over a century ago organized an Eastern Crusade to help the Catholics in those regions. They even got support from Transnistria, that wished to help the Orthodox in the south. The war was a success and the strong repressions have completely wiped out the faith from the map. However, it is possible for someone to revive the faith if they wish to, going through steps similar to the vanilla Hellenic revival.

Hey, whatever happened to the Russians in Kaliningrad? I know that with the times of Romuva Supremacy and Eastern Crusades they probably got supressed, driven away, or assimilated along the way, but the fact that they are all gone really stuck out to me. It was one of the first things I checked when I went over Eastern Europe and I was kinda dissapointed when they weren't there for some reason.

Sorry for asking, I know that this kind of question may be annoying, but when can we expect the next update?
There isn't a definite date for 0.2 release. It's a big update that addresses many regions of the map, from Europe, to the ME, to the east, so we can't make an estimate yet.

Excellent job, this mod looks quite promising.

I was wondering on how "finished" you might be with the set up in Germany. I had some ideas for a wacky religion for the Prussians, where they worship the Kaisers of old as supremely powerful leaders and saviors of the German people.

The main god would be Wilhelm II, a highly praised, larger-than-life figure from the twentieth century that has become quite celebrated among the historical video game community. Lesser gods includes Charles the Blessed, Frederick the Great, Otto von Bismarck, and Barbarossa. Evil gods include the wicked witch Rosa and wizards Marx, as well as the demons Wilsohn and Georgklemenso.

Holy sites are Berlin, Königsberg, Jerusalem (Wilhelm's pilgrimage in 1907), Königgrätz [Hradec], and Stuttgart (near Hohenzollern castle).

Characters may sacrifice their arm in a ritual to increase stats, but it may make them depressed, possessed, or most likely, lunatic. Pilgrimages are a feature, particularly to Berlin, Jerusalem, or a great battleground; successful pilgrims received the Hajji trait, from how Wilhelm was nicknamed in the press "Hajji Bill" for his journeys to the Ottoman Empire.

It would be an aggressive religion with a temporal head, the Gott-Kaiser, who can order great holy wars, which are called a "Weltkrieg." They may conquest and holy war. Their holy order can be the the Lange Kerls, where tall or giant characters with high martial may be receive an event or invitation to join.

Heresies include the radical Putschists, a syncretic religion with Germanic Pagan whose followers have extreme culture penalties against non-Germans. Their holy sites would be Berlin, Königsberg, Munich, Berchtesgaden, and Paderborn.

It seems to much alike with Prussianism

Tbh, giving Germans even a semi=nationalist religion is a thin ice as there are leaders more likely to have a cult in a post-apocalyptic future than the old good keiser.
I feel like any nod in that direction could be an opening for white supremacists.
I guess that seeing controversies surrounding some other mods for Paradox games is enough and a nod to Wilhelm is included.

My suggestion for Germany would be to actually highlight it's socialist and feminist history. Characters like Angela Merkel and Rosa Luxemburg shouldn't be forgotten even in far future. I'm not sure if I'd link them directly with Old World, but something like the Peasant Republic of Berlin would be quite fitting (or a modifier specific for holders of Berlin, which would cause it to rebel a lot).

Edit: And yeah, Prussianism already is a thing.

Yes. I suppose it does, but I'm proposing something that is more extensive than an off-split that is only somewhat fleshed out, but rather an entirely different religion that is something similar to the Americanists across the sea.

You make a good point that it could be enticing to nationalists, which is why it should be depicted like an excessive parody like the Americanists or perhaps something that is rare to trigger. In any case, the Prussians already wear militaristic outfits. Or it should come with somewhat serious drawbacks, like poor defensive capabilities, bad relations with other religions, or proclivity towards generating bad traits. Maybe my Putschist idea was quite excessive, I couldn't think of any counterparts to Prussian monarchism, except perhaps some sort of socialist government.

I also like your idea, like a peasant republic that is geared towards female rulers., with some ideas mixed up with the DDR. The area around Dithmarschen or Ostfriesland are also valid locations for a Peasant Republic because those communities had such republics in the past. I'm always for new government types.

After the End Old World 0.2 - Dev Diary 2: Faiths of the Levant
Hello, everyone, and welcome to a new DD for version 0.2. Sorry it took so long to get this one out, but we are finally here to show more content. And in fact, we don’t need to move from the Middle East at all!

THE UNITED CROSS

The Syriac-Chaldean church in version 0.1 had no land on the map, only appearing through courtiers. However, in 0.2, as our previous DD has shown, now there will be new landed characters. Most notably, as we can reveal now, the Kingdom of Lebanon is now a Syriac-Chaldean Kingdom, rather than a Catholic one.

This comes from the change in lore of the faith, that now represents the union of various Middle Eastern Christian churches. Much like the Evangelicals in After the End Fan Fork, the Syriac-Chaldean church is a confederation of various religious confessions such as the Maronites, the Syriac Catholic Church, the Ancient Church of the East, and others. Because of the Event, they have agreed to confederate in this new united faith.

Of course, not all churches have entered this confederation: even in Lebanon, the most powerful Syriac-Chaldean state, we can still find Catholics. So much so that from here came even the first Middle Eastern Pope in Post-Event history, Pope Cherbal.

And because of this Lebanese Pope, the relations between the Syriac-Chaldeans and the Catholic church have improved over the centuries. So much so that today, a Syriac-Chaldean ruler can decide, if he satisfies the conditions, to re-enter communion with the Catholic Church. As many of the component churches of the Syriac-Chaldean faith are in communion with the Catholic Church today, this allows them to reunite with Rome once more. This decision will effectively turn them into Catholics, so remember to use it wisely in game: at the wrong time, it might not be welcomed by either your vassals or your bordering rulers.

THE FIVE-POINTED STAR

Of course, there is also another faith in Lebanon that has received a major rework: Druze.

bqnm94kply151.jpg

First of all, Druze is now its own faith, instead of a heresy of Shia. To ensure their continued survival, due to their weak starting position, they have been given a peculiar event that ensures they will re-emerge eventually if they are completely defeated.

Druze is also been moved from the Islam religion group to the Esoteric. This means they are now friendly toward religions such as Thelema and Nousthreskeia. To balance this with their lack of close allies, Druze have a positive opinion bonus to all Abrahamic religions and to Zoroastrians. (If the bonus looks high, remember that this does not remove the -20 malus from the different religious group).

Druze also gain access to the Monastic Feudal government, making them quite unique in the Middle East.

THE COSMIC HEAVENLY EMPEROR

The head of the religion of the Druze is an Empire-tier title. Powerful Druze rulers can form the unique Imperial title of the Universal Kingdom and crown themselves as Cosmic Heavenly Emperors. To obtain such title, a ruler has to take an hazardous journey to China, and after that he will unite all the world under the faith.

Will the Druze suceed and form the United Kingdom?

BTW, I don't know if you take suggestions, but I would like to suggest some content for my own country of Poland, currently most of it is Catholic, which I suppose is plausible but quite boring, I would like to see some kind of Polish "ethnic" religion as minority in a mod. And here come my suggestions ;);
I was thinking about adding a Religion in Old World Cultist group named "Sarmatism" focused on the cult of 1st Rzeczpospolita; winged hussars and noble democracy, their high god would be "Golden Liberty", one of the "gods" (or rather prohpets in this case) could be Adam Mickewicz and various influential Polish figures and holy scripture would be "Pan Tadeusz", evil god would be mythical "Rozbiór" the destroyer of liberty. They could use oligarchy or confederate government as default.
I have also (imho even more interesting) idea for heresy - "Sztorcownictwo", it would basicaly be a religion that worships peasant traditions and way of life, it would mix in fragments of christianity, slavic paganism (mostly post-pagan traditions, like dziady etc.) and country folklore in general; their high god would be "Czterdzieści i Cztery", the prophet that is to come and liberate Poland and peasants, their gods would encompass also Mickiewcz and some famous poles associated with peasantry, like Tadeusz Kościuszko, their evil go would be "Zły Pan" and scripture (of course) "Dziady" holy war would be "Rabacja", and I had an idea that that there could be an uprising similar to consumerist one in AtEFF (that is also triggerable by ruler designer) where some peasant names himself a "King of Peasants" and takes nickname "Czterdzieści i Cztery" declaring war on injustice of feudal system, they could get special government, like, "Peasant Commune" but I don't have an idea what it's mechanic could be yet.

Those are only a humble suggestions though and if you don't like them, I may try implementing them later on in a submod some time after new version is out :)

Mod is mostly based on 20th/21st century. First one could be implemented (our cult of history, winged hussars, patriotism and so on), but I rather doubt in 2nd one. Also imagine non-polish speakers reading "sztorcownictwo" XD

I actually think that the second one could also be plausible, seeing how country folklore could have its renaissance, and how peasants devotion to Catholicism was very superficial, and I could see the elders passing distorted versions of famous polish works of art. Another thing is that, I think, point of divergence is in 90s, when memory of People's Republic and workers-peasants narrative is still fresh, especially among older generations.
And adding hard words for foreigners is part of the fun, lol.

Yes and no. "Dziady" were practiced in 19th century, peoples in XXth/XXIst century would probably not know much about it, if not Mickiewicz (people in XXth would not know anyway because of the cenzorship). People's Republic in Poland was not Peasant Republic, but communist one. Peasants and workers are two different social classes. In fact, especially in communist countries, often at each other throat.
