tbh, I like Poland and Italy as two bastions of Catholicism. I can imagine parts of Italy turning to a weird cosa nostra and satanism inspired decadent cult, which would still called itself Catholicism and the pope in Rome becoming disrespected by Polish Catholics, who would install their own Pope in Gniezno and use it to strenghten messianic nature of nationalism in the kingdom and revive some old commonwealth trademarks such as winged hussars.
I don't see Poles becoming straight old world cultists, tho.

I also like your idea, like a peasant republic that is geared towards female rulers., with some ideas mixed up with the DDR. The area around Dithmarschen or Ostfriesland are also valid locations for a Peasant Republic because those communities had such republics in the past. I'm always for new government types.

Yeah, something like that would add to flavour even if unplayable.

Yes and no. "Dziady" were practiced in 19th century, peoples in XXth/XXIst century would probably not know much about it, if not Mickiewicz (people in XXth would not know anyway because of the cenzorship). People's Republic in Poland was not Peasant Republic, but communist one. Peasants and workers are two different social classes. In fact, especially in communist countries, often at each other throat.
Yeah that's the point; reconstruction of old traditions based on oral passing, and I don't think that censorship on him was necessarily that bad considered they emited a special coin with him in 1976, sure there were some controversis with the play from what I remember but still, and my grandparents has many of his books in old print. Now the second statement is absolutely false, there are only two classes in Marxism: bourgeoisie and proletariat, sure urban proletariat was favoured, however most of Poland was rural even after WW2 and it were the peasants that benefited the most from transformation, bringing a lot of them from poverty, and I want to say right now that I don't think communism was ideal or even necessarily good in long term, however some good actions can not be denayed.

Yeah I also agree with that, I was thinking rather about adding those religion as realy small minority.

I'm not talking about classes in marxism, but in reality. You couldn't deny peasants was not proletariat. Peasants became proletariat later, because of modernization. People left villages to be proletariat in bigger cities or went studying and became Inteligence. But in early 20th century existed peasants parties, which were in majority rather conservatist (old PSL with Wincenty Witos)

In the case of good thing of our communist government, I don't see much. The only thing which improved significantly during the rule of communist government was Literacy. But we had cenzorship and we were taught fake history...

In case of catholicism don't forget about his role of preserving polish identity. In 19th century, pillar of polish identity, fighting with Russification and Germanization. Many of Polish Catholic Priests were members or even leaders of National Uprisings in our fragmented country. Even besides the fact that one of Popes (I think Pious IX) wrote that we should not revolt against our Russian overlords, then he apologised for it.
And of course I think I don't need to mention our own Polish Pope - John Paul II :)

P.S.: I forgot to mention. During the communist rule in our country Polish Catholic Church has the similiar role, but against removing our national history and identity. Some people who had impact on that were: bl. priest Jerzy Popiełuszko or Cardinal Adam Sapieha

I won't argue about Polish Peoples Republic here, xd, but what I mean it is still foundly remembered by older generations (their identity is strange case of bi-polar propaganda from both catholic church and communist party; they are conservative on one hand but usualy support communal economy, etc.) and would be even more in case of an event in 90s, but the note that John Paul could be a "god" for one of the religions is good ;)
However I feel like although middle and upper class Catholicicsm was sincere, this of the lower classes was superficial at best.

It was not catholic propaganda. I understand you can be atheist, but you can't deny the fact, that Polish Church has stood against Russification, Germanization and Communism.

Polish Pagans just don't fit. There are no real reasons to include it, the way you want.

The idea with John Paul as god is interesting from gameplay point :) But when would you place it in Sarmatism?

Btw.: "Dziady" were actually present in Lithuania and Belarus which were then considered polish soil.

I have my own different idea for Poland and for Portugal as well. In Częstochowa and in Fatima are 2 big Marian centers. Make Christian (or semichristian I.e [in different religious group]) religion focused on Saint Mary the Mother of God as (in game) high god.
You can make it as 2 different faiths as one Polish and one Portuguese or as one faith with those sites in Fatima, Częstochowa maybe Lourdes as Holy Sites for example. It doesn't have to be majority religion of the Poland or Portugal :)

What about merging Stalinist and Ironist? I mean, a Russian peasant in 2555 may find it hard to distinguish Stalin from the great steel head.

Stalin does mean 'Man of Steel', so yeah I could see that.

As I said I have made a Polish SubMod :)
Good piece of work honestly.
They are some flaws tho.
"Champion" should be written with "a", not "e".
"Prymas Narodowy" sounds really strange...
I would recommend you to use just "Prymas" instead.
Also I think It would be better to have "Jan Paweł II" or only "Jan Paweł" instead of Wojtyła, but thats more of an aesthetic choice :)
"Kosynierist" is really ponglish. Maybe you should just call it "Kosynier" or go with "44" symbolic more and call it "Messianist"

That's only what I have spotted on screenshots :) If I have some free time, I will check your mod in game ^^

Edit: In the case of sarmatist heresy, if you really want to go with "Dziady" as holy book, maybe make "Guślarz" as head of religion instead :)

Thanks, for spotting spelling mistake ;) my dyslexia strikes again...
On other things; I will think about the naming changes.

After the End Old World 0.2 - Dev Diary 3: The future of the North Sea
Hello everyone, and welcome to a new written DD. It will cover the North Sea, going in details on new mechanics that have been added to religions you primarily find in the area.

IT’S MORE LIKE GUIDELINES

The Pirate faith in Europe is of course very different from the one that developed in America. While we originally showed this by a completely different god list, it is time to give some more flavor to the corsairs of the Eurasian seas.

First of all, now the Pirate faith has a peculiar way to spread: rather than just through proselytizing, now any independent ruler with coastal holdings that isn’t zealous (or is inclined to good) and is in debt can decide to adopt piracy as a way of life. After all, rather than a codified faith, the Pirate religion is a collection of folklore, that is shared by all sailors of the ports of Europe and Western Asia. More like guidelines, if you will.

Post image

We also addressed the existing pirate Vassals being unable to raid by turning them into Tributaries. Having a tributary pirate gives a great advantage: those sail and loot the sea, giving part of said loot to their suzerain to pay for the title of Corsair, a title similar to that of Pirate.

Post image

As you loot and pillage the sea, you will be capable of setting up lairs in enemy provinces, to obtain an income from your men attacking passing ships. You will be able to recruit courtiers and men from pillaged regions, to reinforce your crew of marauders. And of course, what is a CK2 game without looting bloodlines?

Once you are no longer in debt, you can decide to return to the faith of your Liege, provided you did not become Zealous in the believes you learned of. After all, there are some advantages in being a pirate or corsair that can result enticing to a player.

NOVELISTS, ANGLICANS AND… IBADI?

Thelema, openly, has destroyed almost all other faiths in England and Wales. However, a few rulers still secretly cling to older faiths, or have secretly adopted a new one.

Jekyll Hyde, a small Count in England, is a peculiar individual, a man many would argue has two different personalities for his erratic actions, has a peculiarity: secretly, he follows the Novelist faith of the French. A weird choice for a British, and even his family has not yet adopted his secret beliefs. Will the faith spread, or will it die with him?

Post image

The Anglicans on the other hand has secretly survived up north, on the border of Calvinist Scotland. While the lords openly follow the faith of the Queen, they barely hide their true faith, with their lands almost entirely inhabited by Anglicanism followers.

Post image

Finally, not a secret faith, but an openly practiced one. Long before the event, the Sultan of Zanzibar moved to England, in the area of Winchester, and after the Event his descendants rule there. Owners of a legendary sword that is said to have shattered Durendal, the Ibadi Sultans of Zanzibar are an oddity in England, but an oddity with many friends among the lords.

THELEMA STELES AND ORANGE KINGS

Thelema acquires one new ability in this update: the ability to erect steles. Those great slabs of stone covered in incisions will tell the story of the rulers that built it, their family or their defeated enemies, ensuring they will be remembered forever. The resemblance to ancient works from the land of Egypt is just a coincidence, according to them.

Post image

More importantly, a new peculiar heresy is added to Thelema: The Orange King. The followers of the Orange King follow the consort of the Queen, the deity that protects her and her followers. As such, unlike other heresies, the Orange King followers show great respect for the faithful of Thelema, actually having a positive opinion of them. Meanwhile, they despise the heretics that follow the Summer Queen or Old Thelema, even more than those that don’t believe in their goddess (except the Catholics, their sworn enemies). The Orange King is a unique faith, a positive heresy so to speak. Of course, however, their rebellions can turn bloody, if they believe the ruler of their lands is disrespecting the Queen.

Post image

There are also new features coming to Summer Queen, but we are not quite ready yet to present them. But stay tuned, Knights of the Summer Queen and the Winter King.

NO MAN’S ISLANDS

In 0.2, the Faroe islands have received a complete overhaul, with a full new setting to play as: now, the islands are ruled by a Petty Queen, to which the others are not vassals, but tributaries. First among equals is the ruler of the Faroe, since the Event.

Post image

However, a brave follower of the Queen has decided this freedom is to end, and the islands shall bend the knee to the Empire. Governwr Irn is a tributary of the Empire, and his ultimate goal is to conquer the Faroe and crown himself King, to then bend the knee to the Emperors and Empresses. Will he succeed?

Whether you choose to play as any of the characters we presented, as a marauder of the North Sea or the bringer of a new faith, we hope you liked this Dev Diary and are ready for more to come in version 0.2

Version 0.2 release
Hello everyone, here is the official release of After the End: Old World version 0.2
In this first big update, new religions, new cultures, and many, many, MANY fixes we have made thanks to the input of the After the End: Old World and After the End Fan Fork community. Between religions getting redrafted to more properly depict their origin and doctrine, changes in rulers and titles, and even many map changes, I am sure this will be a full new experience even for players that were already experienced.
We are currently having technical issues with the Steam release, so that will be slightly delayed, but for now, here are the Mega and Drive direct downloads.

And we include a changelog too. It's a bit wordy, and by no means complete since our devs are absolute stacanovists, but it will give you all an idea of what the game looks like in 0.2.
This changelog is not all-encompassing because the dev team worked so much I can’t keep track of all changes
