Ok, I think one of the (probably several) CTD causes is that I had not enabled Sunset Invasion. Seems in some unpredictable bookmark/character choices, something in that mod is used and if it's not enabled it crashes down. Also, I tried the programs that change the exe header to enable more than 2GB of memory and (this is completely subjective, I might just be wrong) I notice a few less CTD of the kind that happen after a good while of playing.

I don't own Sunset Invasion, but am willing to buy it if it fixes these crashes. Is there any merit to this? Also, what programs are you referring to?

SkyGaiman: there are a couple programs that change technical attributes inside the header of a Win32 executable file (as I understand it, not an expert on the subject). These were found and applied with apparent success by EU3 modders that run into the 2GB problem, which causes lots of CTDs once you run into that memory limits, if I'm not wrong. The easiest one of those programs to use is the "4GB Patch", which you can get from free from the program's author here:

ck2.exe was changed to get past the 2gb limit (LAA) some time ago, 1.09 IIRC. So that utility will have done nothing toward this issue.

SkyGaiman, sorry I didn't explain myself better. Activating SI seems to deal with the instant CTD on bookmark launch that was mentioned in page 1 of this same thread. If the bookmark/character choice does launch and load, yes, I also occasionally suffer the 5-10 minute crash (usually when it's a republic as many other players have mentioned). I was able to play an hours long game in the Clash of Kings bookmark as Dorne, once I enabled the SI mod, though. There really seem to be several independent causes of CTDs floating around, my sympathies to the mod developers on debugging this.

Well unless they have come out with a patch in the last month or so I know I had to quit because you cannot educate children properly anymore, no option to choose their education.

Nevermind I guess that has since been fixed. I guess I will be playing again!

Welcome to Westeros where life is short and brutal.

And to add something meaningful my game crashes randomly but not too often.

No war, no disease and still dying like flies? And in Westeros, characters only start dying if there's a plague going on.

The only thing that Sunset Invasion adds to the mod is the possibility of a late game Aztec invasion, it doesn't effect any of the wider game mechanics at all and is not the cause of the CTDs. I personally don't own Sunset Invasion and have never experienced any problems as a result.

The CTDs appear to be comming from A Game of Thrones/events/slavery_events.txt. We are currently in the process of isolating and fixing the events in question. In the meantime people on the Citadel forum have reported good results from simply removing that file. Doing so however will of course mean you can't use any slavery events.

No need to be so radical. think I just need to remove the event chains regarding the "escape of a slave" and the "demand freedom of a relative"
