As a note is Albania handled uniquely in the mod? (As in, compared to vanilla) From 1944-1948 it was a Yugoslav puppet state (which the Yugoslavs treated as a de fact protectorate—Albania wasn't even invited to the founding of Cominform, Yugoslavia represented it) with the Yugoslavs hoping to attain a peaceful annexation of the country as a republic within Yugoslavia, but then the nationalists won out and from 1948-1960 Albania was a pro-Soviet country (though relations started to deteriorate after 1956), but then in 1960 Albania broke with the Soviets and de facto ceased to operate in the Warsaw Pact as the Sino-Soviet split made it pro-China and very anti-Soviet.

So basically you'd need events going something like this:
1948: Albanian resist Yugoslav plans for integration or not (if the Soviet-Yugoslav split never happens then Yugoslavia will annex Albania, if it does then there is a 90% chance that Albania casts aside Yugoslavia, Koçi Xoxe is purged and Enver Hoxha's position is secure)
Nov. 1960: Hoxha openly condemns Khrushchev at the 1960 Meeting of International Communist Parties (if this happens then Albania breaks with the Soviets and becomes pro-Chinese, if it doesn't then Albania remains in the Soviet orbit under Koço Tashko and Liri Bellishova, should have a 80% chance of condemnation taking place if Sino-Soviet split occurs, and a 80% chance of Hoxha being removed from power and a pro-Soviet line continuing if it doesn't)

I could help out with ministers and pictures and such.

Edit: Also Tannu Tuva should start as a Soviet puppet. :p

Edit II: Also I can give you some Yemeni ministers for the 50's and 60's.

Albania, being one of the first countries implemented, indeed gets a bit of special treatment and has its events go beyond simple cabinet changes. If you look into events, there's an event to drop claims over Kosovo, then events leading to tightening cooperation with Yugoslavia (with some minor economic benefits), leading to possible inclusion of Albania into Yugoslavia, if Soviet-Yugoslav tensions do not occur. Mechanism of seeking cooperation with Communist China is also there, but without implementation of mentioned Soviet-Yugoslav conflict in Yugoslav event set and Sino-Soviet split in Soviet event set, both probably don't work yet.

If you have some other suggestions for Albania or other countries (Yemeni setup would be very interesting, I failed to get hardly anything for Oman so I presume Yemen would be equally hard), please comment. I'll also make sure that Albania in 1945 is Yugoslav puppet as it should be AND that Tannu Tuva does not exists at all. I based my work on Doomsday scenario so there may be a few overlooks of this kind.

After almost month's break I tied all the parts together and created a new version that I hope is good enough for a big step to 0.8 number.

Probably one of the hardest part was completing ministerial setup for all the communist and democratic governments of Poland. Achieving this, I understand why I limit myself usually to looking for heads of state and heads of governments :p

The biggest change, a bit like a tactical withdraw, is ditching colonial liberation model. Ambitious sets of events with localized wars caused the engine quite weird errors and started to be difficult to maintain (= edit and improve) so I came back to simple "liberate or swallow some dissent" rule. It's crude but for now it will work and won't cause headaches.

A nice addition are events for rebalancing the world economy which are good if 1936 scenario is played on to 1950s (and AI is unable to replicate historical growth of industries). They simply change IC and resource values of some provinces. Without making too big changes, I'd like to make such events for 1950, 1955 and 1960 if I find enough data.

Important: I suggest to install it over a clean 1.05 AoD so you can avoid running into UKNOWN_STRING_WANTED problems lurking in previous versions.

Bizon,

do you havbe a scenario with west germany as a country from start?
i'm asking because i found some books with more or less all military people for west germany (admirals and generals, all branches covered) from the early 50s to 1990.
every person has an entry, most or them a picture with promotion dates, details on their service etc.
but to do this i would like to have a scenario where West germany is there from start (like 1955) - to see them directly (would save me a lot of time).

the entries in those books look like this (first page only):

so it should be possible to model west germany very accurate (unlike the hoi versions), i just need a way to see them quick ingame

I initially planned Death of Stalin scenario (set in 1953) for 0.9 which would probably appear in mid-winter if everything goes smooth. But there won't be problem to publish this scenario in early 0.8.x versions with small alterations to 1945 scenario and then polish details, like West German setup.

Well, I write my first post in these forums to thank you for this awesome mod! It makes two thirds of the game actually playable :)

It doesn't seem to work for me, I had to delete that file in order to launch a new game in the 1936 scenario :( (AoD 1.05 clean install).

Ouch, a simple overlook. I tested the new version using 1945 scenario which doesn't use these events (it already has modified IC values) so they weren't loaded at all and didn't trigger errors. The .80a version solves this.

I've been getting strlen errors giving a CTD as Communist China with one of the 'Red China' free IC events. Was happening in 1942, but I commented out that event and it still crashed, so it might be one of the earlier ones, as renaming that event file let me play past that date, although minus the event and with an error on start up.

Red China events are one of the oldest events so I thought it's fairly easy to assume they are bug-free. I'll be able to check this issue in the weekend (I'm mostly away from home during the week) but meanwhile can you clarify what do you mean as "strlen" error? Does it produce any message when crashing?

Yeah, I get a crash error message, which amongst a bunch of garbled mumbo jumbo says something like strlen < + 1 or something like that. Maybe my install of the game just has an error in it somewhere....

I made a quick walkthrough looking for reported errors but didn't find any glaring problems - I'll try to devote more time to this with the next version, though.

The new version (0.8.1) was quite time-consuming because I aimed to finish once and for all the events for economic development around the world. What I wanted to achieve was to give new IC centres to places where they historically appeared after the war, not only for 1945 but also later. Especially in developing countries so that keeping colonies will be actually worth a fight and new countries will have strong economic bases (other than through "offmap" resources). And last but most important, I mirrored the great leap in oil production to support mechanized armies of the late 1940s and 50s. At the peak of 1980s, the world produces over 5x more oil than in 1940s - historical occurence impossible to achieve in vanilla HoI2.

I prepared two spreadsheets (you have them in 'reference' folder) with approximate values of each country's share of world industrial production and total oil production from 1945 through 2000. The smallest players on the stage got around 0,15% of world IC and the bigger ones gradually more. Then I calculated these shares down to the base of 100% (my approximate values, in line with original HoI2 approach, are slightly skewed to favour minor countries and the sum exceeded 100% :) ). Having this data I could calculate how much IC each country should have exactly (I also used information of general rise of industrial production for 1945-2000).
Then I interpolated these values for each province. To make matters simple enough, I multiplied IC (and other resources to support it) in provinces already having those, unless a country was completely deprived of IC (colonial ones), in which case goodies appear in the capital. Oil production took advantage of a different data file so change in IC != change in oil production. This approach can lead to some incosistencies (industrialized countries can experience high IC growth while raw materials producers can have their output rise slightly) but there shouln't be too much of shortages.

The model doesn't take into account the fact that the countries can construct IC themselves and may arrive at industrial capacity higher than historical. But I'm open to any observations and suggestions and may modify the data. I have all the 7000 events automatically generated out of reference spreadsheets in CSV format in a matter of 5 seconds so regenerating the data is not a problem.

Also, there are a couple of other additions to the mod, as usual. Soviet Union probably got less attention than they deserve but there are some other event sets (WW3 flashpoints, space exploration) planned for them.

Sounds very good. I like your ideas regarding post-WW2-IC numbers.

I'm still wondering whether you will also take peace economies into account? Otherwise even the smallest democratic countries at peace will construct huge amounts of aircrafts and destroyers over the course of the gime. I'd say some negative peacetime IC modifier for most countries is needed.

Mostly, I suppose that the buildup to WW3 will take place around 5-10 years and those massive won't appear. It can surely be a problem, even without inflated IC, so probably, as you suggestm I'll do events for peacetime modifiers, maybe even in the next version. And maybe put some limits to amassing manpower as well.

Thanks to the tip from Andrey1984, I could correct mistakes in one of the event files that caused failures upon loading. The mod's archive contains now the corrected file.

Thanks, Andrey!

Bestmajor,
I'd be most interested in the book on the Bundeswehr generals you mentioned. Could you give me the title of the book? Thanks

here you go, fabfeingold

Bradley, Dermot / Würzenthal, Heinz-Peter / Model, Hansgeorg

Die Generale und Admirale der Bundeswehr 1955-1997. 4 Bände.

Osnabrück 1998 ff. Lwd.

the Kurt von Liebenstein pic and the pic of Sigismund von Falkenstein (the latter used in HoI games) are from there. both are in the colour package if you follow my signature. actually the best series of books for the german military leadership in the 20th century i ever saw (you just need a couple of hundreds of € to get them  ).
