He's actually a working mech in Skirmish, a Crusader -- the Hunchback missile pods should be a dead giveaway. In skirmish he's fine. In Career/ Campaign, he's being a PITA, because the Career/ Campaign Mechlab uses a different LOD model to load and that is causing a serious malfunction which has been known to lead to crashes.

Now, this was known earlier, in at least BTG v1.6. Back then though, you can still use the Mechlab to re-equip the mech. Now though, I suspect with the improvement of the Mechlab that allows you to do this:

(Aside: I bought this Annihilator in my Career game on Brockway, the nowhere of Davion Periphery, for... 10 mil.)

Anyway, I suspect this improvement tightened the code in some ways and is now reliably breaking when my Ersatz-Crusader tries to load, to the point where you can't even re-equip them, which renders them pretty useless.

This only happens for mechs that I am using parts from other mechs, so some, like my Ersatz-PXH or Ersatz-Archer works fine as it was using only parts from one mech. But that was sort of the point -- I needed to borrow parts from other mechs in order to make up some of the shortfall. If I'm constrained to parts from one mech only, it becomes much more difficult.

So at the moment, I'm casting around for a suitable replacement shell for my Ersatz-Crusader. After trying Quickdraw, Blackjack, PXH, sort of settling on a Battlemaster, but it's not a great solution. I may yet end up tagging my Ersatz-Crusader so they don't show up in Campaign/ Career so that users don't salvage one and create problems for their games.

Siiiigh.

On other matters, I've tested out the XTRA mod which replaces the existing assets for DLC mechs with DLC assets. It works, but a modloader issue with overriding file content is preventing me from releasing it into the wild. I'd need to test a couple of workarounds, but it may not be possible to release without HBS fixing the Modloader's problems.

solhama joes hangar of the dispossessed has an actual crusader

maybe pull the assets f4om there or the CAB and use that?

I have the crusader mod if you want it let me know i will send it to you
Thanks for the offers, but basically, "no thanks".

The reason really is that this mod isn't intended to be highly complex -- the intent is to act as a gateway; the JSON modifications are pretty much within reach of most players, even those without programming experience. The files do have more complex implementations, but those are usually within HBS parameters and should work reliably most of the time.

For those who just want to have a small extension to change up the gameplay a bit (i.e., more mechs versions, some additional weaponry, a bit closer to TT) that reliably works on BTG version upgrade, this works.

For those who are tempted to look a bit further into modding themselves, this serves as an example of how to go about it, with both simple and more complicated setup for them to work off.

Having the complexities of additional dependencies, which can break (through no fault of their own in BTG v1.8's case), runs sort of counter to the intent of the mod.

Yes, that does gimp my options quite a bit, but that's the challenge in it, yes? In the Ersatz-Crusader's case, there are some not-nice ways I can sort out the problem, just whether I can find a better way.
