I would love for someone to make a mod that made it possible to become a Merchant Republic as a feudal ruler if 1) independent, 2) either duchy or county, 3) capital is a coastal county.

Could add modifiers like a prestige or gold cost, but should be easier than it is for tribal to become republic. If that it is doable then it should be made so AI does not do this UNLESS the character has special trait like Greedy etc.

there is already mods for that. and county rulers can not be merchant republics. There is actually multible of thouse. Use Word republic in ck2 workshop at stream and you will find them easily.
