Hi everyone,
I’m really enjoying Cities: Skylines 2 and especially love the cold, snowy maps. I’d love to see the game’s snow mechanics expanded with a mod that brings dynamic deep snow accumulation and more immersive weather simulation.
Here’s what I’m hoping for in a mod (modular ideas, any of these would be amazing):

Here’s what I’m hoping for in a mod (modular ideas, any of these would be amazing):
- Continuous, Dynamic Snow Accumulation
- Snow depth builds over time during snowstorms.
- Ability to reach significant depths — meters deep, or even customizable by the player (e.g., 0.5m → 10m or more).
- Snowdrifts or piling effects would be fantastic if possible.
- Melting Mechanics
- Snow melting based on:
- Temperature (faster melting in warm weather)
- Elevation (higher ground stays snowy longer)
- Shade/Building Coverage (optional but would be amazing)
- Snow melting based on:
- Weather Control Tools
- Menu or tool for triggering blizzards manually.
- Sliders for intensity, frequency, and temperature control.
- Creative/sandbox-friendly features for experimenting.
- Elevation Effects (already partially in-game!)
- Higher elevation = longer snow retention.
- Ideally works with custom maps and elevations.
- Adds realism and fun to cold-climate cities.
- Makes infrastructure planning more meaningful (plowing, blocked roads, etc.).
- Adds dramatic visual spectacle — who doesn’t want to see 10-foot snowdrifts on skyscrapers or highways?
- Also it would be really cool to have a massive blizzard with 20 feet of snow and see how the game reacts/looks
Technical Thoughts
- Perhaps building off the current snow shader/material but dynamically layering it.
- Optionally adjustable via config files or in-game UI.
- Fully dynamic would be the dream, but even scripted “snow layer depth controls” could be an amazing first step.
- Has anyone started working on something like this yet?
- Would anyone be interested in collaborating on this idea?
