Keep the duels. With this we actually are given second chances if we fail a turn instead of a single shot. Knowing the mod, we'd end up dying far too often with paradox/vanilla duels.

Nooo, the mod's system is much cooler, the impact of duels on battles is very real, I've dueled my way to victory as Lü Bu, I won't if it's vanilla. The several rounds and impact on armies makes duels a very important system in the mod, much more so than vanilla! I ask that you reconsider!

So like, my main issue with your system was how bad the random outcomes were, which might be more on the game's part and less on anything you can do. I recall losing multiple times despite having a higher stat and a higher chance to win. Was not a fan of the multiple steps to battle. One and done is fine for me; feels better with how events work anyway.

Just want to inform the author(s) of this mod that the ability for the court to catch diseases or even unhealthy traits are on steroids. Within a month my leader or court members would development an illness out of nowhere. The province is healthy and yet my members are turning lunatic and/or possessive trait like crazy. Please looking into the chance of character acquire these disease or illness.

I've removed the Sanguo duel system and replaced it with the CK2 vanilla (Holy Fury) duel system. I did spend a lot of time on it (as did the original AGOT devs), but I understand the randomness may not be intuitive to people. It was never based on stats or combat skill but on traits, which may be faulty. Even then, there was still an element of chance to every duel which is why you could see a no name soldier overcome Lu Bu in the midst of battle. Which is also why you shouldn't duel willy nilly. Fighting is dangerous! I've also removed the duel traits (poor, trained, skilled, master) as well as the corresponding events and decisions related to training and the like.

On diseases... My disease rates are half or a quarter of the vanilla game's disease rates. But I will check the events to see if something is triggering diseases and lunacy 'like crazy' (lol...).

I am still cleaning up vanilla bits atm, but I hope to release as soon as I sturdy up the events and decisions and traits. I'm SHOOTING for this weekend. Thanks as always for your support mates.

And... WHO ELSE IS EXCITED FOR TOTAL WAR THREE KINGDOMS!? My entire YEAR is just waiting for its release. I told my girlfriend that as much as I love her. That game is the most important event of the year. She was like, "Oh my god... My cute baby." Keeper!

EDIT:
@tsf4, I will go through your recommendations sometime before release so I can pick and choose the bits I like. I'm sorry if I don't take everything, but I love what you're doing and all that you've done to MAKE ROMANCE GREAT AGAIN! MRGA!!!!! MRRRGGGAAAAAAA!

I would rather be excited for Imperator: Rome versus Total War Three Kingdoms. Being release by Anything but Creative Assembly under the umbrella of Infamous Sega. I should air side of caution. At the same time Sega have shown somewhat they are 'listening' to the fan base with release of Yakuza 0 which I enjoy quite a bit albite linear. Maybe, just maybe they might have left some leg room for this release as well.

I think the stat-based duel system is far better than a one based on traits.

I would love that game, but then I remember they abandoned Attila and Rome 2 (and Empire) suddenly and did not fix some issues that they could've easily fixed (like Rome 2's family tree, guard mode in Attila and so on). CA abandons their games and runs off way too quickly, while also locking away much of the modding potential behind an asinine engine. And that makes me suspicious that they'll do it again.

TW:3K looks amazing so far, and I absolutely love Total War games, but I'll probably not preorder it. I'll get it once it is out. :)

I'm not sure what to say about disease and lunacy. I've already vastly reduced the rates of disease spread already. And I have deleted some demon child events related to lunacy. Disease and lunacy hit vanilla much harder in vanilla according to the tests I ran. Perhaps the near constant state of warfare causes more disease spread than normal? Also, our map is significantly smaller than CK2 vanilla. Less provinces...

OP updated with latest patch!

(0.99)
  • Compatibility update for CKII 3.1
  • Reverted to vanilla duels
  • Reduced disease occurrence and spread rates
  • Added more replacement graphics for interface and portraits
  • Removed certain events, decisions, traits, etc. that are no longer necessary
  • Fixed random issues here and there

Did you touch the installer for the new update? My anti-virus keeps telling me that the file is dangerous and refuse to let me open it. Even when I stop my anit -virus the installer doesn't work.

I haven't touched the installer because I didn't realize there was an issue. And unfortunately, I have zero knowledge about how the installer exe is created. However, to avoid that, I will update my moddb files sometime later tonight.

The moddb files have been updated. @Zamarak500, please download the mac file to avoid the exe installer!

HEEEEY! It worked! Thanks, now I can play my favorite mod. And better than that, I don't got possessed/lunatic/depressed/leper each two months now!

Three questions though
  • You switched back from chinese title icons to Indian ones. Not that I care, just curious if there was a reason.
  • I won as Yellow Turbans (clearly, there was no console command involved ). I couldn't declare myself empore, though. I was stuck as Celestial Master and Chancellor of the Han Dynasty. First time as non confucian character, so is it normal?
  • In my multiplayer game with a friend, we noticed that after the emperor o fthe newly founded Chen Dynasty died, the Chen Dynasty had a Chancellor and a puppet kid emperor, just like the Han at the start. The good Chen Dynasty was usurped five years in its glorious existence and replaced by the Chu Dynasty when the Chancellor declared himself Emperor. We had zero things to do with it and found it hilarious (the Chen Dynasty was a joke) and awesome. In what situation does a Chancellor appear for a dynasty? I'm guessing it's link to the influences at court, but I have no clue otherwise.

Hey @Zamarak500, I'm glad! Per your questions:

1. I'll check on this. This was so long ago that I don't recall why this happened.
2. Ah, if you want to force an abdication, the decision currently requires you to be the same religion and culture which doesn't make sense. I will fix that, thank you!
3. Chancellorship occurs when the Emperor is either too young to rule or incapacitated. The chancellor is chosen based on 1) who is the designated regent, 2) who is the temporary regent (in cases where the designated regent did not become regent), or 3) who is the most popular vassal. The only way to retake the reigns of the empire is through court influence, faction plotting, and/or military prowess. But this is impossible for an incapacitated or child Emperor/Empress for obvious reasons. Thus, the player must play the long game and use whatever means available to claw their way back into power if they've been overtaken by a chancellor. Hopefully you've already planned for this eventuality and have good relatives and allies already positioned to help your heir when the time is right.

Thanks. That's really a great addition. Before, the goal was pretty much just to found your own dynasty and unite China, after which I usually stopped my games. Now it's actually possible to play a long game and see the rise and fall of my dynasty. And if I'm forced to submit I still have a shot at power from the inside. Really a good idea!

I would like to open up a Create a Character contest! We still have some open counties here and there that have been filled with fictional characters which we could fill in with RoTK fans instead!

All you have to do is write a meaningful background story (narrative) about your characters that explains how they became who they are. Use culturally appropriate details please. I will be judgin which stories merit inclusion in the game!

If you can write out your character in the following format, we will endeavor to include him or her in the game. You may also create up to 5 characters to be a part of your court (spouse and child or a friend or father?). Any characters that are too out of character will be balanced.

Well I'm certainly giving this a go. Note that I'm creating these characters with 184 (Yellow Turban Rebellion star date) in mind.

Dai Meng

Dai Meng began his career as a small time bureaucrat in his birth prefecture. While decent at his job, he failed to get noticed, and so turned to writing, becoming a famous scolar in his local area. This finally got him noticed at the age of 31, and by the age of 39 he served as a small time court official in the imperial capital. He proved to be a talented politician, ruining the career or a few of his rivals while advancing his own. Dai Meng benefited greatly from the rise of He Jin to the position of Chancellor, and using his political talent, was able to secure for himself a position as a local administrator.
