What is it?
Shellworlds are hypothetical megastructures involving the construction of a shell around lifeless planets to allow them to retain an atmosphere and support life.
What does it do?
This mod adds an ascension perk that allows the construction of shellworlds around Barren planets. The construction of shellworlds requires a Gas Giant in the same system in order to harvest oxygen to fill the shellworld's atmosphere, or, after researching the Oxygen Harvesting technology, an Oxygen Harvester starbase building in a system with a Gas Giant. Each Gas Giant can only be harvested for oxygen once.
Initially, Shellworlds have 0% habitability, and a -25% habitability modifier. However they can be upgraded to have increased habitability, unlock more planetary features, and increase the number of districts that can be built. This upgrade can be performed twice, and each upgrade requires another round of oxygen harvesting from an unharvested Gas Giant.
Notes
-Shellworlds are constructed via a decision on barren planets. NOT via megastructures or terraforming.
-The Shellworld AP requires Anti-Grav Engineering tech and atleast 1 other Ascension Perk chosen.
-Shellworlds can only be constructed on planets with the pc_barren or pc_barren_cold planet class. Toxic, molten, and frozen worlds, and other uninhabitable planet classes are not currently capable of supporting a Shellworld.
-Oxygen Harvesting works similarly to ice mining from the Aquatics DLC.
-Terraforming Candidates can not support Shellworlds.
-The AI *should* be able to build shellworlds, but this is untested.
Compatibility
-This mod is not Achievement compatible.
-This mod does not alter any base game files, and should be compatible with most other mods
In the Future
-ability to choose a focus during construction of the shellworld, allowing the builder to influence which kinds of resources are more likely to spawn (ex. being able to choose more mining districts vs generator districts
-"Oxygen Rich" Gas Giants that can be harvested for Oxygen twice
-Shellworld Origin which turns the empire's capital into a Shellworld and allowing the construction of Shellworld's from the start of the game
-the ability to "crack" shellworlds via bombardment but can be repaired, and randomly spawned cracked shellworlds
-custom graphics
