Hello everyone,

Inspired from the CK3 spouse and council dev diary, here is a mod which adds the possibility to increase the powers of the spouse of the ruler. Note that in CK2 50% of the spouse's attributes are added to the State Attributes. However, State Attributes and Ruler Attributes affect different parts of the game and I believe a powerful spouse can offer much more than what vanilla CK2 allows. This mod intends to increase the powers of the spouse in a believable and immersive way.

FEATURES
  • Adds Spouse Empowerment laws which can be enabled and increased to grant increasing abstract powers to the spouse of the ruler.
  • These "abstract" powers are simulated by adding the spouse's attribute to the ruler.
  • The ruler can choose which attribute should the spouse focus on. Focusing on a single attribute grants a bigger bonus than focusing on all attributes.
  • The empowered spouse is represented by a new minor title called "Empowered Spouse". If the game rule "Voting Rights" is enabled, then the spouse is granted a new seat on the council.
  • One day after the spouse gains the title, the ruler will get an event to choose a focus for the spouse.
  • The focus can be changed by a targetted diplomacy interaction on the spouse every 2 years if needed.
  • Characters with multiple spouses:
    • Must choose the primary spouse if the primary spouse is eligible for the position.
    • May choose a secondary spouse if the primary spouse becomes ineligible for the position.
    • May choose to give the title back to the primary spouse if the primary spouse becomes eligible again.
  • A spouse is considered eligible if:
    • Is an adult
    • Is NOT a prisoner
    • Is NOT incapable
    • Is NOT a ruler
  • Every year a check will be made to see if the spouse's attributes have changed. If yes, then the bonuses given to the ruler will be adjusted accordingly.
  • Adds Game Rules:
    • Availability:
      • Restricted (Default): Spouse empowerment laws cannot be changed if the succession law is agnatic or enatic. In addition, if using the Conclave DLC, changing of spouse empowerment laws will depend on different levels of council empowerment. Without the Conclave DLC it will depend on the Legalism and Tolerance technologies in the capital province.
      • Council Laws Only: If using the Conclave DLC, changing of spouse empowerment laws will depend on different levels of council empowerment. Without the Conclave DLC it will depend on the Legalism and Tolerance technologies in the capital province.
      • Succession Laws Only: Spouse empowerment laws cannot be changed if the succession law is agnatic or enatic.
      • Unrestricted: Spouse empowerment laws are available regardless of council empowerment, technology or succession law.
    • Voting Rights:
      • Enabled (Default): The empowered spouse is considered a voter on the council.
      • Disabled: The empowered spouse is NOT considered a voter on the council.
COMPATIBILITY
  • Compatible with ALL mods! This includes overhaul mods such as HIP and CK2+.
  • Can be added to save games. Will use the Default settings of the game rules above.
  • Disables Achievements.

Update:
------------
Ver 1.0.1
------------
  • Removed the condition for the primary title to not be a primary type title for the spouse empowerment laws to be available.

Update:
------------
Ver 1.0.2
------------
  • Fixed an issue when adding the mod to other save games, whereby the spouse empowerment law was not set to any value and therefore couldn't be enacted at all as the Min value requires it to be at Low first (in order to be lowered). Now when adding to save games, the ruler can enact the Min law before increasing it further.
  • Lowering the spouse empowerment from Low to Min now properly requires that the council power is fully abolished.

Update:
------------
Ver 1.0.3
------------
  • Removed the requirement to either be able to marry or be already married in order to have access to the spouse empowerment laws. This was primarily in place to prevent certain AI rulers who shouldn't be using the laws to have access to them, however, in some cases it could prevent a player character who cannot marry (e.g. Eunuch) to be unable to change the laws. Now the AI who can't marry will not enact or change these laws, but the player can.

Update:

Ver 1.0.4
------------
  • Fixed an exploit whereby when changing the spouse's focus by decision, the previous bonus was not removed.
  • Rulers with multiple spouses: The primary spouse is now considered ineligible if he/she is not a vassal or below of the ruler.
  • When resetting the bonuses, the variables are now also set to 0, which should hopefully serve as another failsafe against runaway attribute changes.
  • The bonuses will now properly reset if the spouse "resigns" from the title. Although this resignation is not supposed to happen, but I still included the reset mechanism just in case.
  • The event to set the focus of the spouse now fires instantly when the spouse receives the title, instead of after 1 day.
  • If the spouse does not hold the Empowered Spouse title "during" the focus selection event, no bonuses will be applied regardless of what option is chosen. This is a failsafe against situations where the spouse loses the title before the ruler sets a focus leading to gaining attribute bonuses which will never be removed.
  • Fixed an exploit where if during the focus selection event, the spouse loses the title and is granted it again multiple focus selection events would fire. Now, no new focus selection events can fire while one is ongoing.
  • Fixed a case where the spouse's attributes were checked multiple times at the same time every year instead of just once.
  • The character modifier "Spouse Support" which shows the bonuses is now removed at the start of the focus selection event and only added after a focus is selected.
  • Fixed the Change Spouse Focus targeted decision whereby the spouse event target was not properly set.
  • Added some debug logging.

Update:
------------
Ver 1.0.5
------------
  • Fixed a bug where when conquering new counties the choose spouse focus event was fired.
  • Hopefully a rare bug where multiple spouse empowerment laws could be active simultaneously is now fixed.
  • Removed the tooltip that you will get the Spouse Support modifier when choosing a focus option, as that was unnecessary to show in the tooltip.

Update:
-------------
- Ver 1.0.6 -
-------------
  • Republics no longer have access to Spouse Empowerment.
  • Fixed a bug where when clicking "Something else" twice in the choose focus events would cause the choose focus event to not fire.
