For anyone messing with the beta on GitHub, I've uploaded a new version that includes up to 96 events now. My to-do list is to finish with 12 events and do the modifier localizations and effects, and we should be good to go this weekend for the first official release!

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH YYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH Baby!

I was hoping VIET (and EMF) would make it to CK3, I just didn't expect it so fast!. :)

With VIET I am doing my similar strategy with my VIET Reboot, where I gradually adapted previously done events while making new ones - so I won't have anywhere near as much events as the old version yet, which is why it's relatively fast lolol. Most of the events I've added so far are relatively simple code wise, to help me adjust to CK3 modding. But hopefully over time I'll be able to adapt some of my older events while adding new ones too.

I shall have to think what I can contribute to this!

Hmmmmmmmm....

Nice to see it coming together !

As a side question, did you find a way to reload events in game ?

You mean like if I edit the events code and then reload those changes in the middle of the game like with the "reload events" console command in CK2? Unfortunately haven't figured that one out yet, I'm going off whatever is available on the official wiki and doesn't seem to be anything there. Would be handy to know so I don't have to constantly reload the game.

Yeah exactly that.

You and me both.... It is especially frustrating as there are a lot of small syntax changes that need to be triple checked from the raw export (scope, triggers etcc) and the actual game events files.

Yup, for example I'm still getting adjusted to the fact that the commands to add/subtract prestige and piety are no longer "prestige" and "piety" like in CK2 but "add_prestige" and "add_piety", so if my event was otherwise fine but I forgot to make that change, I'd have to reload into the game again to check if my "yay you get a measly 5 prestige!" worked.

will there be a manual download for the full version as well? i use the gamepass version so i cant download from the steam workshop ;-;

The manual version will be available on GitHub, just like the CK2 version of VIET. If you're unaware, you can check out the manual Github version of VIET for CK2 as an example (click here) - as you can see, it has zip file downloads for every version. I am not sure what differences the gamepass version has but I presume the folder structure for mods is still similar so you'd just need to plug and play into the mod folder and you should be fine.

Version 1.0.0 "Temujin" (Released 9/13/20)
VIET EVENTS HAS BEEN RELEASED!
Version 1.0.0 "Temujin"
Steam Workshop Download | Github Manual Download

Temujin was the birth name of Genghis Khan, one of the most accomplished conquerors in world history. In the span of one lifetime, he went from an outcast of his own tribe, to a name feared across Eurasia. He and his descendants would rule the largest continuous land empire in history, with consequential ramifications for world history

Alright, the first official release of VIET Events for CK3 is up! Both a Steam Workshop and a manual installation (download on GitHub), are available on the links above.

Since this is an early version, there's probably going to be some bugs and jank, so please let me know if you encounter any bugs, or if you feel events fire too frequently or not frequently enough (that will probably take a while for me to balance). Hopefully I'll add more and more events through future updates so that this mod will be up to speed with VIET for CK2 in terms of content and variety.

Honestly don't have much else to say - it's been 8 years since I started modding CK, so hopefully this will be a good start to many more years of Crusader Kings modding!

I just downloaded it and your .mod file has your system My Documents as the path. I've fixed it for you. :)

So I discovered something interesting - it seems that when you launch the game, it will automatically rename the path of the .mod file in the /mod folder to your system's My Documents path if it isn't pointing there. That's why I was confused at why I put my system's My Documents as a path, because I never did it in the first place lol. Not sure why they changed this when they had used a different system for all their other games.

Maybe you guys have an ear for my plea for more MTTH events, like I wrote it here. Right now the many progression bars of CK3 that have replaced a lot of MTTH events have made most of my playthroughs feel the same: predictable and grindy. What was once a real event - surprising and unforseen - is now mostly expected and well calculated.

Thanks all!

MTTH events literally no longer exist in CK3, the code doesn't exist for them to be, well, coded in anymore. Now, most of the events are done on via on_actions, so if you want the devs to change their approach to that stuff you'd have to ask for them to change them to fire via normal on_actions methods instead of whatever they have atm (haven't really bothered to look at that code to be sure).

Hell yeah. Will there be a Paradox download?

Hell yeah. Will there be a Paradox download?

No plans at the moment - unless if there's serious issues with using mods from the Paradox download together with Steam mods or the manual install version of the mod, I'd rather maintain only two downloads, one via Steam and a manual install one, because I'm lazy lol <_<

Question, does it impact performance, and do the events fire for the AI?

Most of the events will fire for AI rulers the same way they fire for human players. There aren't any at the moment, but there were a few events from the CK2 version of VIET - mainly big event chains - that won't fire for the AI for various reasons, but these events are few and far between.

As for performance, that's a bit hard to gauge but if it's like CK3 the performance impact should be minimal. The events are mostly one-shots so they're fairly small and their effects are usually minor. So far my game still seems to run pretty fast even with a few mods on.

Version 1.0.1 "Hieronymus Bosch" (Released 9/16/20)
Version 1.0.1 "Hieronymus Bosch" HAS BEEN RELEASED!
Steam Workshop Download | Github Manual Download

Hieronymus Bosch was a renowned Dutch painter from the 15th century, most famous for his vivid and fantastical depictions of life and hell. His paintings were unusually macabre and surreal for the time, featuring terrifying imagery that reflected a deeply religious man who wished to express moralistic, spiritual themes in his work.

Second release of VIET is up! Includes 33 new events and some tweaks and fixes. I'll probably do a smaller update this weekend before resuming a more regular schedule of releases on weekends when I see fit (and also start work on my CK3 equivalent of the Immersion Packs).

For the next version, 1.0.2, one thing I’ll focus on is to rebalance prestige/piety gains/losses to be a bit more consequential (though still less compared to vanilla on average, to keep the spirit of the mundane nature of some of these events).

  • Added 31 new events about the following themes:
    • 9 Art
    • 6 Underworld
    • 13 Fantastical Stories*
    • 4 Furniture*
    • 1 Food*
  • Disabled a few events if using the Serious Events Game rule as a precautionary measure
  • Added in several new cultural/regional variants for the new event backgrounds
  • A few toasts (ie the banner messages that appear after some events) will now be red (negative) and green (positive) colored as appropriate, depending on the situation
  • Upped the learning requirements to trigger the Bad History event very slightly
  • Moved a few events from the tri-yearly on_actions to the yearly on_actions
  • Scarborough Fair event will now always make you lose stress
  • Fixed other languages’ localization not matching default English localization for game rules
  • Fixed missing localization for opinion modifiers
  • Fixed gazing at clouds event missing character animation
  • Fixed localization issue with the difficult book event toast
  • Misc localization and bug fixes I forgot to list here

Are you going to be bringing back Glitterhoof? LOL

Oh damn.... It's too absurd to be in VIET (I always drew a hard line at the absurd and/or supernatural stuff), but I am sure I can reference it somehow just like in the Gate of Hell referencing event I just added in. Definitely have to put that on the to-do list.

:p I'm sure you'll figure out the right way to do it. :)

Don't.

It won't be an explicit reference, and probably more in line with the other events so something like your courtiers discussing hearing about how Caligula supposedly appointed a horse a Senator or you read a book about the supposed legend and choosing how to react.

Version 1.0.2 "Ibn Tumart" (Released 9/20/20)
Version 1.0.2 "Ibn Tumart" HAS BEEN RELEASED!
Steam Workshop Download | Github Manual Download

“I become not one of them by living among them; sandy earth is the gangue in which gold is found.”

- Ibn Tumart, spiritual and political founder of the Almohad movement that overthrew the Almoravids

Next update is up! Includes some new events including a couple of old favorites such as an event chain the VIETerans might remember. Major feature of this update is the rebalancing of prestige/piety gains/losses to be more consequential for many events; they're still sort of minor compared to vanilla, but you will see less "gain 2 prestige" effects now (although there are still a few like that).

I’ll now try to go on a weekly/bi-weekly update schedule, though who knows where my fickle heart will take me. Anyways, for those who played my cultural/regional Immersion Packs for CK2, I am also concurrently starting work on my sequel of them for CK3, so stay tuned for info about that. I have now settled on Chios Island and Siwa Oasis as the first "focuses" of this mod (granted, I could change my mind again, but let's hope not).

  • Added 21 new events about the following themes:
    • 9 Adventure
    • 13 Prophecy and Future*
  • Added event chain “Winter Wind Sentiment” from old VIET (23 events total)
  • Rebalanced prestige/piety gains to be slightly higher than previously, though still somewhat less than vanilla (typical range increased from ~1-20 to ~1-50, with intended average from ~5-10 to ~10-30).
  • Added in a couple new event backgrounds
  • Changed a few events’ backgrounds to be the tavern, where appropriate
  • Miscellaneous bug fixes
