New update to vanilla patch 1.1 is up. Major new feature is that I've tweaked the prestige/piety gains/losses again, and hopefully for the last time.
For those who really don't like the low prestige/piety gains, I've added a new game rule to adjust it for lump sums. There are two options, 1.5x and 2x the default amounts. I do not recommend the 2x option as I feel the values are a bit too unbalanced but I left it for those who find having small gains/losses a dealbreaker for their immersion. The 1.5x option should be good enough for those who don't like the defaults in my opinion. For those who are a bit more savvy with CK3 code, what I did was basically replace every instance of prestige/piety gain/loss with a scripted effect that changes the amount based on the game rule selected (so I had to manually test most of my events again - which is probably why it's better I decided to do this now, as I would have refused to do it later due to how long it would take to test that many events at that point).
Here's a preview pic of the new game rule:
As an example of how this works in-game, here is one of the new events added in VIET 1.1.0 with default values:
And here it is with the 1.5x game rule on:
Note this only affects lump sum gains/losses of prestige/piety, and does not affect modifiers, and stress/dread gains/losses (the latter two are more complicated and have a cap anyways so I felt it unnecessary work for little gain).
There'll be a smaller update next weekend, though one feature I hope to get in then is a game rule to adjust the frequency of events if I can figure out a system by then.
Added new game rule to be able to increase the amount of lump sum prestige/piety gains for VIET Events for players who do not like the default amounts
Added 28 new events about the following themes:
7 Fire
4 Baklava
14 Skyrim dialogue inspired (the more gratuitous references will be disabled via game rule)*
Revamped prestige/piety gain/loss averages/ranges again
Increased prestige/piety gains from modifiers (several were showing up as 0% NOT because they were actually 0%, but because CK3 does not show percentage points smaller than 1% for prestige/piety modifiers unlike CK2 for some reason)
Made events folder lowercase as having it capitalized was causing issues on linux
Iberian region now uses the Mediterranean variant of the “Tuscan Country” event background
Thanks for the new version. But surely, making the events 2 times rarer would compensate for 2 times higher rewards? That way you could preserve the balance all the way up to a 10 times modifier (which would be the amount in line with vanilla).

For the default balance I would rather not make them much rarer, as it would break up the intended default "feel" or "flow" I want, not to mention it would only really apply for the small minority of players who would use the 2x game rule anyways. That's also not to mention I constantly have to tweak the frequency anyways. A 10x modifier would also wreck balance to a ludicrous degree as it would actually not be in line with vanilla, as the more consequential events would be handing up to 400-500 piety/prestige apiece (and I will not be bothering with calculating exponential proportions to balance a game rule that would be used by a very small minority of players). To me the 1.5x is closer to vanilla without being too imbalanced, so I highly suggest that version anyways as it's only a minority of events that have the really low piety/prestige amounts - as mentioned I decided to add in the 2x against my better judgment for those who just really don't like the smallest amounts, which again are not the majority of events anyhow. The range of the 1.5x version is between ~8 to 75 for most events.
However, that said, in the next update though I want to add in a game rule to adjust the frequency of the events, so if I figure that out you can use that to tweak it to your liking (granted I can't change RNG being RNG, but oh well).
The medieval Iranian polymath al-Tusi contributed to several fields of science, such as developing trigonometry as a mathematical discipline. He was most prominently the court astronomer for Hulegu Khan, grandson of Genghis Khan and founder of the Ilkhanate. Under Hulegu’s patronage, al-Tusi founded the Maragheh observatory, one of the most advanced of its kind in the medieval world, which employed both Islamic and Chinese astronomers.
This weekend's update includes a few additions, most importantly a new game rule to adjust event frequency (I strongly recommend using caution with this, and only after running multiple games to avoid the pitfall of relying on small sample size, as I can’t change RNG’s fickleness).
For those who haven't seen it, I also started a new forum thread for my upcoming culture flavor mod, Regional Immersion and Cultural Enrichment (RICE), which will be the sequel to my Immersion Packs for CK2. I hope to post dev diary previews on the first two flavor packs (Siwa and Chios), and upload a beta version and an accompanying sister mod that adds in new music within the next week or so - please check it out if you're interested in that kind of stuff, especially once I have some more updates on it!
Added 12 new events about the following themes:
6 Numbers
6 Sun*
Added new game rule for how frequently events from VIET fire (Warning: This only affects the likelihood - RNG may still cause some event spam, or no events to fire for long periods of time, depending on your luck, so use with caution!)
Added special variations of localization for several VIET Events for pagan Norse, credits to tora75
Recalibrated the frequency of events to account for the new frequency game rule
Fixed event about forgetting a dream making you lose instead of gain prestige
Thanks! I'm actually Vietnamese, and I like lame acronyms, so when I first came up with the first iteration of the mod back in 2012, I decided its name would be a lame acronym lol.
Liber Lapidum was the most famous work by Marbod of Rennes, a French scholar and archdeacon of the 11th and 12th centuries. It was arguably the most widely distributed medieval European lapidary. Lapidaries are a genre of ancient and medieval scholarly books that dealt with stones and gems and their supposed physical and supernatural qualities.
New update up, just a bunch of events so y'all know the drill. Next anticipated update will be around Halloween in two weeks with some obligatory spoopy events. I'm hoping to focus mainly on my cultural immersion mod RICE in the meanwhile, shooting for next weekend as I'm mostly done with the non-flavor event stuff, so we'll see (and hoping for a preview of the Chios stuff tomorrow).
Also, I find "Liber Lapidum" really hard to type fast for some reason. Guess it's because even though my WPM is great I am not used to shifting from the "l" to "p" keys.
Anyhow, here's the 1.1.2 changelog and screenshots, as usual:
Added 35 new events about the following themes:
8 Earth
8 Rocks and Minerals*
19 Generic*
Added several new cultural event picture variations
Zhiguai, or “Tales of the Strange,” was a genre of Chinese literature that was especially popular during the Tang dynasty. Featuring supernatural elements, these short stories were often presented as retellings of true, factual happenings. They would inspire Chinese literature in later eras, most famously Pu Songling’s Liaozhai Zhiyi (translated as “Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio” in English) from the 17th century, whose short stories combined zhiguai tropes with elements from other genres.
The new spoopy Halloween update is up! This is the biggest update since release, and total number of new events is now at 326. I'll be busy with NaNoWriMo next month, and expect the next update to be late November.
Additionally, I've uploaded the first version of Regional Immersion and Cultural Enrichment (RICE) to Steam Workshop, the sequel to my Immersion Packs for CK2. It adds in cultural flavor and simple, lightweight mechanics to various regions of the world, and the initial release includes content for Siwa Oasis and the island of Chios. Please check it out if you're interested!
Anyhow, here's the 1.1.3 changelog and screenshots, as usual:
Added 45 new events about the following themes:
7 Spooky
35 Death*
3 Monogatari Referencing*
Added two event chains from CK2 VIET: “Love Lost” and “Dream of the Final Journey” (15 events total)
Made events slightly less frequent, especially those on the yearly on_actions
Fixed missing placeholder localization for the Cinnamon Crunch event chain for several non-English languages
Fixed Scholar’s Tale event not triggering first event properly
Great to see this one expanding! Thank you very much for your efforts! It's always a joy when an event of yours pops up for the first time in my games - love the added flavor!

There will be more event popups, because my mod basically triggers the events on a separate system than vanilla's events, but YMMV on whether it's too much or too little, as I've gotten both as feedback, sometimes in the same build
The problem is that unfortunately a lot of it is down to RNG. For example, in a game when I was testing the early first build of this mod, I got two of my new events within one year, and then literally nothing for twenty years. Tthere are some event chains that have quite a bit of text to them, but there aren't many of these and they're generally relatively rare. Anyways, generally, my goal is for somewhere in the ballpark of 2-4 events a decade on average, and from my testing at the moment that seems to be the case - but again, due to RNG, you may see 0 in a decade or more than 4.
Finally, I have included a game rule that allows you to adjust the frequency of events triggering - I would not recommend adjusting this until you've played a few games so you have more than one sample size to draw from, as it is meant to be a last resort for people who just have really bad luck with RNG.

And here's the official update to vanilla patch 1.2.0. Includes a few new events and tweaks per usual. Not sure when the next update will be rolling out, but once NaNoWriMo is over I should have a bit more time to work on CK3 modding again.
Anyhow, here's the 1.2.0 changelog:
Updated to vanilla patch 1.2.0
Added 10 new events about the following themes:
5 Celebration
5 Shady*
Major event chains and rare events will no longer trigger during wars
Major event chains and rare events will trigger less frequently
All events are less likely to trigger during wars
Moved a few events from the five year on_actions to the rare/event chain on_actions
Temporarily disabled Winter Wind Sentiment event chain for female and homosexual characters (special text for female or homosexual characters will be added in a future update)
The Dong Son culture was a Bronze Age culture located in northern Vietnam during the first millennium BCE, and whose people are the likely direct ancestors of modern-day Vietnamese. Their cultural influence extended throughout Southeast Asia and they are particularly skilled in bronze casting. These bronze drums and mythologized accounts of the Dong Son culture have featured prominently in Vietnamese culture for centuries. A major Dong Son settlement, Co Loa, would later become was the first capital of the Ngo Dynasty, the first independent post-China dynasty of Vietnam in the 10th century CE.
Eight years ago today, I released the first version of VIET ever, marking the start of a very interesting journey. Anyways, in honor of that, this update includes adaptations of most of the first batch of flavor events I ever released for VIET (albeit a few weeks after the first initial release), along with a few other goodies. Right now, I'm planning to have another small update before year's end.
Added 27 new events about the following themes:
18 generic trait related (the first events ever coded for VIET back in 2012)*
9 generic
Added text variations of the “Winter Wind Sentiment” event chain for female and homosexual characters (not sure why I missed that one before all these years…)
Added a few new event backgrounds for the Iberian and Tarim Basin regions
Some courtiers spawned via event will have a loyalty or favor hook to the ruler of the court they spawned in
Nobleman spawned via the “Never Trust a Bandit” event will go to the global pool if not recruited to court
Changed Skyrim barmaid event to fire for men only, and flirt/one night stand options will only be available to straight and bisexual characters for obvious reasons
The miswak is a type of teeth cleaning twig that has been popular for centuries throughout the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia. Islamic hadiths frequently mention their importance, and recommend their use in a variety of situations, and it is still used to this day. For example, the Prophet Muhammad is quoted in one hadith as having said: “Were it not that I might overburden the Believers I would have ordered them to use miswak at the time of every Prayer.”
I just wanted to first say that the Paradox uploader can sometimes be a huge pain in the ass to use - I wasted an hour trying to get this update out because of its wonkiness and I still don't know how I fixed it. But, anyhow, good news is VIET is now updated to vanilla patch 1.3! Includes a few new events as well. Depending on how my schedule and energy turns out, I'll see if I can get another small update out this weekend.
Osman I was a 14th century Turkish lord in Anatolia, and the founder of the Ottoman Dynasty. Much of his life is shrouded in myth and legend. The state he established would eventually come to dominate much of Europe and the Middle East, and endure in one form or another until shortly after World War I.
New update up! Not much here to say but we have passed a milestone now with over 400 new events added by the mod. I'm tentatively planning for the next update to be sometime shortly before Stellaris Nemesis (as I'll focus on updating my Stellaris mods then), so perhaps in two to three weeks - we'll see how that goes.
After another player pointed out a bug in my code, I realized that for some reason I did not upload the new 1.3.1 event code to the manual install/GitHub version of the mod. If you're using the manual/GitHub version, please feel free to download the updated version from the link above.
Do note that Steam and Paradox Download versions are not affected by this, this was only an issue with the Github/manual install version.

Just uploaded another update! Total events is now up to 420. To no surprise, the Paradox mods download is acting wonky again even though I confirmed I've uploaded the new version, it's not displaying right for me, so if you use Paradox mods download I suggest switching to manual install or Steam workshop just be careful for any potential wonkiness on your end.
Anyhow, plan is to do another release sometime later this month, but no guarantees.
Added 15 new events about the following themes:
11 generic*
4 inspired by Oblivion dialogue
A few events now increase the potential to become friends or rivals, just like some vanilla events
Maidservant in labor event now upgrades your physician trait if you have one, and will show the physician options’ triggers properly
"Benevolence is the characteristic element of humanity."
Confucius, The Doctrine of the Mean
New version of VIET is up! Also, if you didn't see it, I now have an official Discord server for my mods, so feel free to drop by if you'd like to talk about my mods or see previews/teasers of my upcoming work!
Warning to Paradox Mods users: for some reason the launcher is not letting me update the mod, even though it uploaded fine to Steam; if you want the new content, you will need to switch to Steam or use the GitHub manual install. As usual, Paradox Mods is bugging out on me for some reason and raising my blood pressure. I literally wasted half an hour just trying to get it to work to no avail; I'll try uploading it again tomorrow to see if it'll work.
EDIT (5/2/21): The Paradox Mods version is now up - thanks to @Mouchi for recommending I upload it manually on Discord! This should make things much easier going forward given I've had a lot of trouble with using the launcher to upload things. Let me know if you use Paradox Mods and encounter any issues.
Added 24 new events about the following themes:
9 Medicine*
15 Kindness
A few modifiers that previously gave a health bonus now negate health penalties instead
Ancient ruins background now has more appropriate noise
Fixed incest debate event happening for non-incestuous religions
