Time for a teaser for the next, massive update for VIET, which will feature the return of the county/province events from the CK2 version of the mod! These are events that involve county modifiers and other affects on counties, which have been conspicuously absent since release, and the update will include both adaptations of old events from the CK2 version and new ones too. (Thanks to Vertimnus and Stik for helping me figure out a system for this on discord)

Merry Christmas everyone! Here's another preview for the next update which looks like it'll be the largest update after the initial release. Some of the new events revolving around counties will provide opportunities for you to interact with various simple flavor decisions. ETA for the release of this update will be end of this weekend or early next week if all goes well.

Merry Christmas everyone! VIET's holiday update features the return of the county events that have been conspicuously absent since release. The update adds over 78 new events and 7 new decisions, most of which involve county modifiers and other effects on counties. Valerie of Limoges is a Christian saint and martyr who was said to have been a follower of Saint Martial, the patron saint of the city of Limoges in France. According to legend, she was beheaded for refusing to marry a pagan lord; after her execution, she carried her head and brought it to Martial, who was then bishop of Limoges. Her cult, and that of Saint Martial, were especially popular in the medieval period.

Here comes the first update of the year! Not much else to say, you all know the drill. Now that we're at 682 events total, I am planning to see if I can reach 700 events with one last update later this month before Royal Court comes out.

  • Added 16 events with the following themes:
    • 11 Contemplative Thoughts
    • 5 inspired by unmarked locations in Oblivion (including 2 county events)
  • Added a lot of Chinese localization (thanks to Chinese translators!)
  • Added a couple new variations of the ancient cairn background
  • Modifiers that grant the ability to take various decisions now mention that in their descriptions
  • Miscellaneous bugfixes

Final update before Royal Court!

“I have loving-kindness for footless creatures; for those with two feet I have loving-kindness. I have loving-kindness for those with four feet; for those with many feet I have loving-kindness. May all beings, all living beings, all creatures, every one, meet with good fortune; may nothing bad come to anyone.”

- Anguttara Nikaya 4:67 (Part of the Pali Canon of Theravada Buddhism)

This is the final VIET update before the release of Royal Court (barring any major issues needing hotfixes). With 46 new events, all related to animals in some way or another, this brings the total number of events added by VIET to a whopping 728!

Once Royal Court comes out, assuming no IRL issues get in the way, the plan is to have a couple basic compatibility updates out immediately (the first ideally in a day or two, with stair themed events), before a larger update that will reintroduce CK2 VIET’s clutter artifacts such as calipers, trusty shovels, abacuses, and more (assuming it isn’t too complicated to work out quickly).

  • Added 46 animal themed events
  • Added 3 new decisions:
    • Purchase Dependable Donkeys
    • Construct More Dovecotes on Residence
    • Listen to Wild Songbirds
  • Added a few new event backgrounds for the Indian region
  • Miscellaneous bugfixes

I have a question. I would like to play RC on release day together with your mod. Do you think, it will be compatible?

Probably would work, but you'd be doing so at your own risk lol. I hope to get a working compatible version officially up within a day if possible - I don't anticipate it being too hard to do for VIET (though of course you never know).

Hi all, if you haven't been following my discord, I've posted a few teasers of upcoming content for VIET coming tomorrow, with Royal Court! Thanks to Paradox for providing me early access so I could get a head start on my mods. The VIET update will feature many new artifacts, some of which those who played the CK2 version of the mod might recognize, others of which are entirely brand new.

I have Russian translation of events, I dont know how upload here. Could you include in your MOD

Thanks for the translations, much appreciated! I'll add them in. In the future, you can also use the VIET github repository to upload changes as well (which is what some of the other translators have used).

Version 1.5.0 "Zhao Mingcheng" (Released 2/8/22)

VIET has been updated to Royal Court
Version 1.5.0 "Zhao Mingcheng" has been released!
Steam Workshop Download | Github Manual Download | Paradox Mods Download

Discord Server | Website

Zhao Mingcheng was a Chinese poet, politician, scholar, and antiquarian of the Song Dynasty. He was the husband and lover of Li Qingzhao, one of the greatest female poets in Chinese literary history. The couple spent years amassing and cataloging a large collection of ancient art and artifacts. Contrary to other scholars of his day, Zhao stressed the importance of ancient inscriptions and objects as primary historical sources. Sadly, the two lost much of their collection during the Jurchen invasion of Song China, and Zhao passed away shortly afterwards, leaving his widow to continue his legacy.

Paradox graciously provided me early access so I could get my mods up to speed, so thank you to Paradox for the support! VIET 1.5.0 "Zhao Mingcheng" adds 46 new trinket artifacts across 46 events, some adapted from CK2 VIET and others entirely brand new. They range from trusty shovels to backscratchers, recipes for baklava and sweet rolls, and more - see if you can collect them all!

  • Updated to vanilla patch 1.5 “Fleur de Lis”
  • Added 46 artifacts, that can be gained via 46 various events, including 3 recipes and 1 book: 26 from old CK2 VIET and 20 brand new ones
  • Added new game concept: Clutter Artifacts
  • Added two new artifact types: Clutter Artifacts and Recipes
  • Made the crow event chain rarer
  • Removed a few unused modifiers
  • Changed the Dreamer and Qi Ma the Liar NPCs a bit so I wouldn’t have to use a roundabout method to make them unpruneable
  • Fixed several events not triggering: interest in shorthand, submerged shrine, servant forgets how many spoons of medicine to take
  • Miscellaneous bugfixes

Since there are more events in the basegame now, should I adjust the frequency, which with the events of your mod fire?

@Trunting won't be necessary per se, as my events are on a separate system so they don't affect each other's chances, from my limited testing while updating my mod it wasn't an issue.

Version 1.5.1 "Taillevent" (Released 2/12/22)

Guillaume Tirel (c. 1310-1395 CE), better known as Taillevent, was a 14th century French cook at the French royal court. He is credited with writing Le Viandier, one of the earliest surviving medieval cookbooks.

This is a small update to address a couple bugs, including a major one with Russian localization not working. It also includes some new recipe artifacts for you to collect! I expect PI to have a hotfix up soon within the next week, so another small update to VIET will come around then.

  • Added 9 new events:
    • 4 new recipe events
    • 5 more potential events for Qi Ma the Liar about Royal Court
  • Added 4 recipe artifacts: Yogurt, Savory Pie, Sweet Pie, Bean Soup
  • Added Chinese localization for most new stuff
  • Tweaked Sinosphere trigger slightly and it now also accounts for descendant cultures
  • Moved Abacus and Ancient Coin artifacts from uncommon artifacts on actions to common artifacts on actions
  • Fixed issues with Russian localization
  • Miscellaneous bugfixes

Small update to go along with the new vanilla patch - includes a few new artifacts!

  • Lusty [Culture] Maid will no longer appear if the serious game rule is turned on

Version 1.5.3 "Li Bai" (Released 4/12/22)

“Facing my wine, I did not see the dusk,
Falling blossoms have filled the folds of my clothes.
Drunk, I rise and approach the moon in the stream,
Birds are far off, people too are few.”

- ‘Amusing Myself’, by Li Bai

Li Bai was an 8th century poet, considered to have been one of the greatest Chinese poets alongside his friend Du Fu, even during his lifetime. Themes commonly found in his poetry include friendship, solitude, drinking, the moon, nature, and more.

It's been a month since the last update, so here's another small update that includes 12 new events, 3 artifacts, and 1 decision. We've also reached a milestone with the number of events added by the mod to a grand total of 800 events!

  • Added 12 new generic events
  • Added 3 new artifacts: Small Seashell, Useless Map, House Vase
  • Added new decision: View Flower Meadows in Bloom
  • Added several new regional variations of event backgrounds
  • Recruiting the imprisoned prankster now gives you a loyalty hook on them
  • Changed sound ambience for a few event backgrounds
  • Miscellaneous bugfixes

“Love rests on no foundation.

Rumi was a 13th century Persian poet, scholar, and mystic. His works are considered some of the best poetry not only among Iranian communities, but around the world as well.

VIET has just reached another milestone of 150k subscribers on Steam Workshop! To commemorate this, I've uploaded a small update with a few new events.

Anyways, thank you all for your support, whether you encouraged me with kind words of praise, tracked down pesky typos in the mod, gave suggestions, or helped through some other way. It's humbling to know that VIET is the 5th most subscribed CK3 mod, and the most subscribed flavor mod, and VIET will continue to grow with more events and features.

Looking ahead, I don't know if there will be another small update out for VIET before Fate of Iberia, but there will hopefully be one shortly after the DLC comes out.

  • Added 8 positivity events
  • VIET’s Sinosphere scripted trigger now correctly includes various cultures it didn’t before
  • Fixed GitHub version missing some code for some reason
  • Miscellaneous bugfixes

I would request that the health boost from food are nerfed a little more. Playing just now, a neighbouring ruler has the great pox (severe health penalty) and is described as being in "Good" health thanks to a bean soup and a yogurt recipe.

But... Medieval yogurt were special and magical, thanks to Unicorn tears mixed with the long lost recipe

Just checked the values in the code out of curiosity, and apparently the great pox penalty is just -1 health (which is pretty amusing since it means a perfectly healthy ruler who's normally ~5 health would only be ~4 health which is hardly a problem in CK3). Anyways, would explain why the negate health bonuses of the food is pretty decent, as the bonuses can range from 0.1 to 0.4 depending on the quality of the artifact (so if the ruler by chance has the rarest quality for both, it'll be 0.8 of the health penalty that's offset). I'll make a note to nerf that for the next update, thanks!
