Someone on steam workshop reported a potential bug where they can't properly use the "Summon a Smith" decision - unfortunately this isn't something I can easily reproduce, but if any of you guys encounter some bug like that and you're pretty sure it's caused by VIET, please do let me know.

These last two months have been insanely busy irl for me, so I haven't done much modding related stuff and don't have much spare time which I've spent playing games and reading books instead lol.

I do have some content I worked on here and there though, including before life got busy, and since I have a long weekend this weekend, I'm hoping to if not release it to at least test and bugfix some of it and get it out by next week.

Heraclius was Roman Emperor from 610 to 641 CE, and ruled during an important, transitionary period in the history of the Empire. During his reign, the Romans finally defeated their ancient nemesis, the Persians, only to lose many of their gains to the rising Arabian Caliphate. He was also responsible for reorganizing the Empire and his reforms, such as changing the official language of the Empire from Latin to Greek.

I’ve been busy with real life among other things these past three months, but I’ve finally found time to upload another update. In honor of Imperator’s recent release, this version of VIET is called “Heraclius.” It doesn’t actually really have a lot of Roman-related flavor, I just wanted to use a Roman name to be cool.

Besides new events and additions, there are a couple other important changes and tweaks. First, VIET’s clutter artifacts can no longer be stacked, for a little less spam. Second, certain events will no longer fire in random worlds for obvious reasons.

No idea when the next update will come (though it's quite tempting for me to get it in something by May 29) but as always, your feedback is welcome.

And here's the 2.0.4 changelog:

  • Added 35 Spices themed events
  • Added 13 Skyrim dialogue inspired events
  • Added 13 Rose themed events
  • Added 3 Deer Musk themed events
  • Added new artifacts: Mythical Creature’s Bone (Dinosaur Bone)
  • Added a few more event pics
  • Re-added events from old VIET: 6 Curry, 9 Rocks and Minerals, 10 Urine, 5 Monogatari references
  • All VIET clutter artifacts can no longer be stacked
  • Some culture/religion/region-specific events will no longer fire in random worlds for obvious reasons
  • Ancient artifacts now have an “unknown” creation date, for more immersion
  • Dance with the Dead event chain can now happen to Latin, Iberian, and Celtic culture groups, or those in the Western European region, as well
  • Nutcracker artifact no longer limited to Christians
  • Pistachio event can now also happen in Asia Minor
  • Readjusted the likelihood of getting events and event chains, particularly the rarer ones on the five and ten year pulses
  • Incestuous runaways event will no longer fire for reformed pagans that have the divine marriage doctrine
  • Children under 13, as well as Celibate, Chaste, and Eunuch characters, can no longer respond a little too positively to the good whores province event
  • Fixed a couple childhood events giving Conclave childhood traits for those who don’t own the Conclave DLC
  • Fixed VIETnam.85 not triggering

I like the dinosaur bone. Though, Siberian natives (including those on the map) actually had some interesting beliefs about mammoth bones specifically, often connecting them to the underworld. Just kind of reminded me of it.
 
I want this to be compatible with After the End, somehow.

Technically is compatible, but a number of the events will be referencing things or seeing things from a POV that won't make sense.

I remember coming across something about that while reading up on Siberian prehistory/protohistory and mythology a while back. Figured if I ever get around to doing something for Siberia it'll feature prominently.

I think I found a bug, though. It seems there's a few events meant to use capital_scope when checking for regions that aren't, since I just was running the game on Observe and ended up with a 134 MB error.log that's almost this same thing repeating. Here's a snippet of it, it all seems to reference this same event file:

New version up. This is just a minor update to fix a few bugs, mainly the creepy Rose letter event that may have been triggering too much for some of you, which I felt was important enough to warrant an update like this one. I’ll see if I can have another minor next weekend after the new patch rolls around.

As a side note, my internet dropped in the middle of uploading this update, so I had to re-upload again, and on top of that Steam Workshop was derping out on me and refusing to update the mod and I had to try uploading it several times, so do tell me if you notice any irregularities that might’ve been caused by the mod not uploading properly.

And here's the 2.0.5 changelog:

  • Added 3 broccoli flavored events
  • Added 6 virginity related events
  • Added a couple of Tibetan event pictures
  • Re-added the following events from old VIET: 4 furniture events
  • Increased Heartless Villain opinion malus
  • Rose tea event now gives a “Rose Tea” modifier (to be consistent with other herbal tea events)
  • Poetic Guardsman modifier now gives a slight bonus to combat skill
  • Fixed Musk Deer product event not properly referencing regions
  • Fixed creepy Rose letter event triggering too often
  • Fixed Auriel’s Ascension event from triggering when province is different religion than ruler

And a couple screenshots of new stuff from the update:

I think the rose event became even more frequent after this update.

URGENT, THERE IS A SERIOUS BUG INVOLVING THE 'ROSE EVENT' INGAME. It has affected the games of everyone playing the steam version of the mod. Please FIX.
 
Looks like when I tried to fix the Rose event it got worse, so I'll get a hotfix out ASAP by tonight.

THIS IS A HOTFIX FOR THE ROSE LETTER EVENT BUG


Hotfix up - apologies for the screw up with the Rose letter event! Please unsubscribe and then resubscribe to the mod to ensure the mod updates properly.

Anyways, looks like I forgot to add in one line of code, which was why it kept triggering constantly. Tested it by running a few games for several years each, didn’t see the event at all. Thanks for everyone’s patience, and let me know if you’re still encountering the issue!

And here's the very small changelog:

  • Fixed Rose letter event triggering too frequently
  • Fixed Rose letter event localization as well while I’m at it

Version 2.0.6 "Ibn Sirin" (Released 5/19/19)

Ibn Sirin was a Muslim mystic from the late 7th and early 8th century, who was supposedly well-versed in the art of dream interpretation. The Great Book of Interpretation of Dreams is attributed to him, though he supposedly never liked books and reading much, believing that memorizing things and not relying on texts was superior.

Just uploaded a new update to go along with the new vanilla patch. Nothing too major, though one thing to note is that courtiers generated via VIET’s events now have a very small chance of appearing with artifacts for flavor. As always, please let me know if you encounter any issues. I’m planning the next update for May 29, for meme reasons.

And the 2.0.6 changelog:

  • Added 24 strange dream events
  • Re-added 12 TES inspired events from old VIET
  • Added new artifact: The Lusty [Culture] Maid
  • Military courtiers generated via events now have a small chance of appearing with military artifacts
  • Some courtiers generated via events now have a small chance of appearing with clutter artifacts

@cybrxkhan I am wondering if there could be statue artifacts of not just the Hellenic Gods and Goddesses but the other Pagan faiths and the Eastern Religions? Perhaps for the Pagan faiths they need to be reformed first.

I don't want to turn this mod into an artifact mod, but I'm pretty sure there will be plenty of other statue artifacts I'll be throwing in, in the future. :) Actually, on that note, finding statues for other pagans isn't a bad idea, but I probably won't add events for that en masse.

Actually, I do have another one in the mod already - there's a possibility of finding a Nok terracotta sculpture if you're in sub-Saharan Africa. My next update may also feature a potential (but quite rare) statue artifact too.
 
I'll be trying to push for a small update tomorrow to go along with the 3.2 patch / the anniversary of the Fall of Constantinople. No guarantees though.

Will future updates be compatible with those that stayed with 3.1.1?

Given that the 3.2 patch doesn't add in a lot of stuff other than the bookmark, I doubt there would be any potential issues. Do let me know if there's any other problems, but if there are you'll probably just have to use to the manual installation of the old versions off of Github.
