Hello everyone,

This mod aims to add an entirely new immersive dimension to the game by allowing the player to forge long-term (perhaps centuries-long) dynasty-wide relations with other dynasties which will improve or deteriorate based on the actions of one dynasty's members with the other dynasty's members.

I think CK2 has a lot of interactivity between "individuals" but the interactivity between "dynasties" is completely lacking. I aim to fix this as much as possible via this mod.

With this thread I intend to keep you guys updated about the development of the mod and the direction in which it is heading. You can also give suggestions/feedback/comments by posting your replies to this thread.

Features:
  • Allows the player to choose another dynasty to form Friendly Relations or Hostile Relations with that dynasty.
    • Currently only one friendly and one hostile dynasty can be chosen.
  • This will cause the members of the respective dynasties to have opinion modifiers for each other.
  • The strength of the opinion will depend on (but is not equal to) the Relationship Score.
  • Relationship Score will increase with positive actions between the dynasties, and decrease with negative actions.
    • Relationship Score Tiers:
      • Friendly Relations: <0, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, >100
      • Hostile Relations: <-100, -90, -80, -70, -60, -50, -40, -30, -20, -10, >0
    • For each tier, there is a specific opinion modifier (e.g. for score 50 the opinion is +25 whereas for score >100 the added opinion is capped at +50).
    • For friendly relations, the lower cap of added opinion is +5 which remains regardless of how low the score goes. If the score remains negative for a very long time (e.g. 50 years) the dynastic relations end.
    • For hostile relations, the upper cap of added opinion is -5 which remains regardless of how high the score goes. If the score remains positive for a very long time (e.g. 50 years) the dynastic relations will end. The
    • For Friendly Relations the score goes down by 1 every year. Thus, in order to keep the relations strong you will have to do positive actions with the other dynasty continuously.
    • For Hostile Relations the score goes up by 1 every 5 years (people don't forget bad things easily).
  • Positive Actions add a varying amount of score (e.g. marriage adds 50 score).
    • These actions include: marriage, granting titles, ending a war in white peace, constructing buildings in a character's holdings, constructing holdings in a character's province, Goodwill Gestures (see below for explanation).
  • Negative actions add a varying amount of score (e.g. declaring war adds -50).
    • These actions include: divorce, declaring war, winning war, usurping titles, revoking titles, imprisonment, banishment, execution, discovered assassination, discovered failed assassination attempt, getting someone excommunicated by requesting the religious head, raiding, looting settlements.
  • Goodwill Gestures:
    • The regular Send Gift decision is NOT affected by this mod and WON'T give any relationship score. This is my mod's method of remaining compatible with other mods by not modifying any vanilla game files. Rather, in addition to the vanilla methods, my mod adds its own method of sending wealth to your friendly dynasty's members in order to gain Relationship Score.
    • Every 10 years, it allows a character to choose a character from his friendly dynasty, and transfer selected titles or wealth to them as a Gesture of Dynastic Goodwill. The Relationship Score will increase depending on the tier and number of titles or the amount of wealth transferred.
  • Reminder: The Relationship Score is affected by the actions of ALL members of both dynasties, and not only the player.
Implemented Features:
  • Friendly Relations have been successfully implemented already, including all the functionality described above (relationship score, opinions, score update, goodwill gestures etc.).
  • Hostile Relations are pending.
Planned Features:
  • Events between the related dynasties. Focusing on immersion and interactivity.
  • Add more incentives for more frequent interaction between the dynasties (would love to hear your suggestions how to do this).
Compatibility:
I plan on keeping this mod compatible with ALL other mods including overhaul mods such as HIP and CK2+. However, trying to achieve something complex like this while also maintaining compatibility puts a lot of restrictions on what can and cannot be achieved with this mod as it requires me to not touch any vanilla files.

Looking forward to this mod it sounds cool, but you shouldn't limit the relationship to one friendly and one hostile and maybe there should be more marriages between friendly dynasties ?

I would love to expand the relationship to more than 1 dynasty. However, it is currently quite complicated to implement this without making it very resource-heavy. It will require a lot of work and perhaps trickery to achieve it without compromising performance. Therefore, I intend on releasing the first version with a 1 dynasty limit, but later work on it in my free time and try to add the functionality for multiple dynastic relations.

As for more marriages between friendly dynasties - I am pretty sure I won't be able to implement that without breaking compatibility with other mods because this will require me to edit vanilla files about AI reasoning for marriage choice.
 
Does the AI use this?
No, the AI cannot start Dynastic Relations - this feature is limited to the player alone (again due to performance issues).

However, once the player starts dynastic relations with another dynasty - the actions of all dynasty members of both dynasties (player and AI) will affect the Relationship Score.

The existence of the relationship does not directly affect the AI's tendency to choose a particular type of action. The AI will act according to its own individual personality, and the dynastic relations will be positively or negatively affected by it. Though, one can say that the dynastic relations will have an "indirect" influence on AI's action choices, because they will modify the AI's opinion of the other dynasty's members. So the AI will hopefully be more inclined to do more positive actions with that dynasty.
