I created this thread to have a place to collect stories on what to avoid when modding the game.

- When removing a country, make sure that you have moved all the characters in the country to another one or removed them. Check the country lines in xxxx_scenario_characters.inc .

- If you try to change the the date of an existing scenario to an earlier date, expect a CTD.

- Remember that the player can only play a character with the same last name as the starting character.

- You need to change both xxxx_scenario_titles.inc and xxxx_scenario_countries.inc when change the ownership of a province. Also remember to change the ruler in xxxx_scenario_titles.inc .

- When scripting events, do not use an ID below 10,000 (1-4999 reserved for Paradox developer use and 5000-9999 reserved for beta use).

- DO NOT cross triggers, conditions or effects between the character events and the province & spread events. In most cases they aren't valid. Also, be aware that some province triggers/conditions behave differently when used in spread events

- When scripting spread events, you must specify "to" and "from" in all aspects of your script.

- Avoid very small or very large MTTH values (results in clipping due to processor roundoff)
 
MrT, how large and small are too large and small for MTTH?

Is there a way to test province_x_province or character_x_character events from the console?
 
Oh, and a little lesson I learned from experience...

When adding lines to the csv, make sure you don't end up erasing the two EOF lines at the bottom, because the game won't start at all...
