Once upon a time (prior to v1.3) Hyper-drive ships could make jumps from anywhere in a system, this had some interesting uses (e.g. raiding starports then running like hell) and sped up travel time a lot.

Patch 1.3 included this line:
  • Ships with hyper drives can now only engage FTL from outside the system's gravity well, as opposed to anywhere in a system
A later patch (2.0?) would also add that the ships had to travel to the hyper-node to jump,
Does anyone know if these FTL-changes are checks reflected in script / in a component template? Or if it's a compiled (un-moddable) check?
(I have a feeling it's the latter, as I cant find anything when searching component files or defines, but wanted to see if anyone knew)

I'd like to modify the Tier 3 Hyperdrives to re-enable the ability to jump from anywhere in a system, without an FTL inhibitor, as this would make The Hyperdrive Technologies and late-game travel a little more interesting (Hyperdrive I - III basically do nothing different).

No.
