My apologies if I've missed a previous thread that dealt with this.

Having just obtained my copy of the CK, I have set about (as I did with EU2 and Victoria) editing the mp3 files; in this case, removing the modern compositions from the CK Music folder and replacing them with mp3 files drawn from my CDs of medieval music. I have also edited the music.txt file present in the folder, again removing the vanilla compositions and replacing them with the names of my mp3 files.

However, the game continues to play the original music, despite these changes and my having moved the original folder to another part of my computer (the original folder is no longer in the general CK folder).

What have I not yet done, that I can do, to get my music files to play?

This is very odd, given the ease with which these files can be modified in EU2 and Victoria. Does the CK game engine use the same "algorithm(s)" to read the music files that the other two games use?

I have the feeling there is a bit of text somewhere in a configuration file that wants editing.

Try making a new file in your music directory and call it list.bat (assuming you have extensions shown). In it put this:
Code:
dir *.mp3 /b /o:s > music.txt
That should list all the mp3 files in that folder and create a working music.txt. What does it look like currently?

Thanks - I'll try doing that to see what I get.

In the meantime, though, I figured out the way to get it to work. Noting that (like Victoria) CK can be played without a CD in the drive, I surmised that the music files may simply be uploaded and stay that way once one loads the game the first time (pray excuse the lack of technical language or understanding here).

This seems to be the case. I uninstalled and reinstalled the game, culled the original music folder/files and replaced them with my own mp3 files, and now the game plays my files.

Sorry - one important detail: I replaced the music folder/files with my own mp3 files BEFORE I loaded the game the first time after reinstallation.

Can you help me where I can find medieval music?
I would love it
Thanks

I wasn't able to play any of the examples, but if this doesn't fit the bill, nothing will:

Music of the Crusades

Also, for church music of the middle ages, look for anything under "gregorian chants."
