I have done some experimenting with some map changes and i would like to know how to add to the black areas of the map as you can see from the pic below i have tried but its still black around the island
 
I'm not completely sure what you're asking (a little punctuation goes a long way ;)), but I think what you're trying to do is add more islands to the British Isles, yes? And the land you're adding is within the black edges of the map?

I call this stuff "fuzzy terra incognita" (it doesn't have the hard edges of normal TI). It is defined in the alpha channel of one of the .dds files in the \map\terrain folder (colormap_water.dds, IIRC, but I can't check at the moment).
