Well, just showing these models as an example of DETAIL and ACCURACY,and wondering if models set into Naval War could be built as close like that.

Don't think that's possible. I've done some 3D modelling and rendering. A shot of a ship as detailed as that takes probably a minute or so to render. Not easy to get frame rates of 30 fps with twenty of those on the screen all at once, you know.

I personaly think the models are great as they are now. I don't particularly like it when 3d models are super detailed, because it causes the game to lag. Besides, NWAC is meant to be a fun RTS about modern naval combat, not a showcase for ultra realistic 3d. (I'm not saying I don't want amazing 3d though!;))

Hi,
Nice looking model :) This one is more suited for cinematics or renderings, not really optimized for game engines. The poly/triangle count is about 30 times to high.

True, porcupine.

3D models for games have to be simpler. However, there are many techniques in games are - like normal mapping - that produces impressive results out of less triangles.

We'll make the models for the game as good as we get them!

Combine normal mapping with alpha mapping and just with that you get a great illusion of a polygon detail. If the engine supports it, adding a tessalation effect to the ocean would improve water texture a lot as well.
