Hi. Recently received the gift from PI and GG. I would like to know wich are the mods for CK that you enjoy more. I'm also wondering if somebody has modded something about the moors crushing so much the christians in Spain.

Hi. Recently received the gift from PI and GG. I would like to know wich are the mods for CK that you enjoy more. I'm also wondering if somebody has modded something about the moors crushing so much the christians in Spain.

The two major mods are DVIP or TASS. Both are good, but are not compatible. I don't think there are any mods specifically for the Iberian peninsula.

I started a number of games in vanilla DV as Castille or Léon and what with the brothers tearing each other apart and the militancy and sheer power of the muslim rulers I found it very hard going, as you describe.

I then tried a game a Barcelona (also in vanilla DV). Freed from the internecine warfare of the Castillians, I had resources enough to deal with the muslims.

I certainly recommend DVIP but I haven't played an Iberian game since installing it so I don't know what effect it has.

I'll try first with DVIP. It's not problem for me to survive against the moors (well, is a problem, but I can manage it) but... I would like to compete with the other christians of Spain in the race of the Reconquista, not to try to annex the most possible of them before the moors have taken them all.

DVIP might have made minor setup adjustments to the Iberian realms, but in my experience with DVIP (I have not installed any of the later versions), it matters little. The Jimenez' are still at each other's throat, and that I think it the major reason they get creamed by the taifas. F.x. Castille goes on the offensive to the south, and Leon attacks Castille, and then Galicia stabs Leon in the back.

The only time I have seen the christians survive on their own, is when either Sancho of Castille or Afonso of Leon inherits the other realm at the beginning of the game. Then the realm is large enough to deal with the emerging super taifas.

And that's really the strategy you should use as either Leon or Castille - try to kill the other king before he spawns some sons.

Just tried a Castile game. Took out Leon in the first year and managed to make a white peace in the first round of wars with the Moors. Then got a lucky claim on Gallacia and forced a claim on Porto. At this point my BB was ok, merely tarnished, and I could keep my vassals loyalty up, especially after I had apportioned out my Dukedoms.

But I gain infamy attacking the Moors? I seem to remember from CK that the best way to expand was to go Heathen bashing to gain prestige and then claim some Christian thrones. But having serious problems controling my BB here. How do I keep it down?

BB thread in the FAQs section

Basically, giving out titles reduces BB. A gamey way to reduce your BB is to defeat someone in a war, force them to become your vassal, but recognize their claims. This works especially well when your BB is so atrocious that your vassals all declare war...

The only other way to reduce BB is to sit and wait. The higher your piety the faster it burns off, although I have no idea what the actual numbers are for that.

The cynical way to deal with BB as a either Sancho of Castille or as Alfonso ruling combined Castille and Leon is to give land to your unwed sisters. Urraca already controls Zamora in some mods and I think vanilla CK-DV. Once you are tarnished, give her Salamanca (a poor province anyway) and the duchy of Leon--she has a high intrigue value. Elvira has a much lower intrigue but a rather high diplomacy so she could rule one or maybe two provinces but dominate a bunch of counts.

Question too: do you take all the Moorish territory you conquer, only the wealthy bits, or recognize claims on everything you can? I tend to only keep counties that are good (Toledo, Cordoba, Sevilla, Cadiz, etc.), recognize claims of poor sheiks, and annex Muslim kings and emirs. This keeps reputation good and actually improve rep when you recognize claims. So that is another good tip for Iberian play.
