I haven't downloaded mods for a while and since I was forced to get a new computer I was hoping to reinstall those that I'm used to playing. However, after trying to download Epigoni, the mod failed to show up in the launcher. I place this in the general mod section because I tried the same thing with Magna Terra, to see if it was a problem with the mod or what I was doing. That one also failed to show up.

I've gone over old threads, none of which were helpful and have spent a little more than an hour trying to figure out where I'm going wrong.

What I need is someone to go over what needs to be done in detail because the example description below doesn't work.

Before the obvious is asked; I have Windows 7, using the Steam version of the game, the game is fully updated, the correct file is extracted to EU Rome mod but beyond that there seems nothing else I can do.

Using the game launcher:

1. Preferably use a clean install of EU: Rome Vae Victis

2. Extract the files and place them inside the mod folder (Paradox
Interactive\Europa Universalis - Rome\mod) of your install of Europa
Universalis: Rome Vae

3. Delete or at least remove all the texture files from the “Europa
Universalis: Rome\Map\cache\province_textures” folder, however keep
the now empty texture folder inside the cache folder after deleting or
removing the texture files inside this folder. This can all be done
automatically by running the batch.exe file by placing it in the “Paradox
Interactive\Europa Universalis – Rome” and activate it by double click.

4. Removed

5. Use your game launcher to start up.

6. After the game has made the new paths and textures (could take 5 or
more minutes) you are ready to play.Victis.

Pre generated province textures are available in the download thread - for those who's computer systems have difficulty generating the textures. The province textures overwrite the vanilla game texture files.

Find where Steam has installed your game (it should be in your Steam installation directory -> steamapps) and open up the mod subfolder. If you installed the mod correctly, it should contain a folder called "Epigoni Mod" and a file called "Epigoni Mod.mod".

The problem is that I don't have the "Epigoni Mod.mod" Even with the other mod I didn't have the ".mod" I've extracted the files and have the folder in the mod section. I do have the "Epigoni Mod" one though but it shows up as a movie clip. I'm guessing that isn't right and if its something I would have to change, I wouldn't know how. This is what it looks like after extraction.

No, it is right that way. That file is .mod and it seems there is a video format with that extension, but it runs fine with that.
One thing I discovered is that the Account Security stuff in Windows may prevent the Launcher to recognize the mods, or something like that. Try lowering the security thing in the User Account to allow programs to change the computer etc.

That didn't work for me and I turned it down to nothing. I restarted the machine, even re-extracted both mods but neither one shows up in the drop down. Its like they went out of their way to make things more difficult in Windows 7. I never had a problem with mods with XP.

Since mods are clearly going to be a pain to get working, would I be able to simply extract the file to the main Rome folder? Which would turn my 'Default' game into the mod I want, like Epigoni? I realize this would only give me one mod per game but I can't play Rome or EU3 without mods. They're too boring without them.

The other option is to create a shortcut of your romegame.exe file. Right-click it, choose "Properties", go to the end of the "Target" entry, after the quotation marks. Add a single space and type:

Code:
-mod Epigoni Mod

Click "Ok" and run the shortcut.

That basically bypasses the launcher and runs Epigoni as the default mod instead. You'll know if it works if you see "(Epigoni Mod)" after each of the loading messages.

Finally something that works. I ran through the load and everything worked as you said so it looks like its working. It'll be a pain to do this for other mods I want to try/play in the future but at least now I have a way. Thanks a lot to the both of you.
