Mods installed in a different version??

I'm getting the message that some mods were installed for a different version of this game. I started using this game when it came out in 2015. It's the only version I've used. Is there a different version that I should know about? Is a newer version compatible with all mods? Thanks.

The game is updated frequently, which means it's been through a lot of versions - even though it's technically the same game.
As for the mods, some of them might not have been updated to work properly with newer versions of the game, but it doesn't necessarily mean they're broken. To clear any doubt, you can check your mods against the list below to see if any of them are actually outdated - also make sure to check the tab "Broken":

Thanks for your reply. I unsubscribed to all mods and assets. There are still mods that will not work. For example, Advanced Vehicle Options. It seems like most of my issues started after Airports DLC.

If you are using city saves from 2015, they will probably not work regardless. Have you tried with a new city started since you removed those mods?

As mentioned above make sure not to use any outdated mods.
AVO works perfectly fine.

Unfortunately this game requires you to keep an eye on mods after each update. Mods tend to get outdated when their creator is no longer playing this game.

Thanks for your reply! Yes. Some mods just bring up the dreaded orange and black X. For example, should "Advanced Vehicle Options" still work. I get the orange X when I try to use it. Same result with some other mods.

I see. I actually get them from time to time - guess I never noticed they were orange
As for AVO, make sure you're not subscribed to the old mod that was deleted from the Workshop long ago, but to the new one that akeela linked above. They pratically have the same name so some confusion is bound to happen.
