Mods not showing in the launcher, sometimes not at all

I have subscribed to some CK2 mods direct from the workshop. I have downloaded 7 and only 2 are currently showing. In my /user/documents/paradox/ck2/mods folder, all of my mods show up in their .zip files. Are the .mod files supposed to be seperate from their zip? I've tried to extract the .mod by itself but I get an error saying that the file format is "Unknown or Damaged", even with them being newly subscribed.
I do already have Steam sync enabled for the game and Steam in general.
I've tried unsubscribing and subscribing again, as well as verifying the game cache. I've looked at videos and forums and still, I haven't found a solution. Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you!

You don't need to unzip the files that come down from Steam, no. Generally speaking each mod has a .mod and a .zip file.

It should be /mod/ not /mods/ , is that what you actually have?

Are you sure the mods you've subscribed to, are compatible with the game version you have?
