Monday, 1st of August

I'll try to conclude today's (yesterday's) session, before I leave for sun, water and easy life.

Today we were more then we used to be in the past. At some point we were eight, testing Hero's hosting capability the thoughest way we could. He seems to pass this test with no trouble, so we have one more "big" host among us.

At the end of session we were:

Wishing Well - USA
Andrew - UK
Herodotos - Germany
Ederon - Italy
Greg - Nat. China
Olorin - Canada

We had SU and Brazil players too, but one left because it was too late for him (half past two in his timezone, that was SU player), second due to lack of interest in the game.

We reached September 1945 I think, so we played for something like 5 or 6 months.

Allied offensive launched from South Africa we saw at the end of last session developed fully today. Overnumbered Axis had to face dreadful human wave strategy adopted by the Allies for the first time. Axis commanders couldn't understand for long time why are Allies waiting with their attacks so long considered their superior numbers. Now they could see its devastating effects.

With extensive air cover UK made invasion of Mallorca, seizing its air and naval bases. Strong UK garrison holding that base is just few steps from the heart of Italy. Italia was fully mobilized, bringing up its most advanced secret weapons. Will it sufice against Allied air superiority? We'll see.

Central Africa saw few actions, where brave UK well-trained special corps made breakthrough to Fort-Lamy. Axis commanders tried to encircle them, but lack of decisivness enabled Brits to safely pull back. Losses were heavy on the side of Italy. Few divisions were completely anihilated, others cut down of men more than significantly.

Allied air superiority is graduating, it will be the key to Africa together with Chinese manpower. Axis are working hard to catch up with Allies as in technology and doctrines as in numbers. The gap is just too big though.

Minor victories were achieved on the sea, where Italian submarine and also surface fleet sank a lot of mostly US warships. Many carriers amongs them. Italian wolf packs are making heavy dreams to Allied convoys near Africa and India. Under everpresent threat from Allied bombers.

Good report Ederon. But there's another detail of note. Venezuala was persuaded to join the Allies and this enraged their neighbour - the left-wing radicals of Brazil who DOWed them and the Allies. This brought the rest of the Comintern into war with the Allies - the rump of the Soviet Union, in particular.

Brazil is suffering at the hands of the Allies but the Soviet Union poses an interesting threat to China. We should try to ensure that this country has a player next time.

The German High Command is very happy with the new war between the weakened Comintern and the Allies. A potential new thread will come from the east if China will beat the SU, because in that case I will have a land border with them. But for now it's 100+ more divisions (25-30 of them Armored) China will have to deal with and so far they have left at least 250 out of their 400+ in Africa and the Middle East. Whatever happens it will make the game even more interesting than it already was.

Another very interesting detail is that US now has a level 6 Nuclear Reactor in Pittsburgh, despite some construction problems as the world has been told.

Ah, I thought I had forgotten something

You really need a holiday forgetting something like that ;)

It looks like there is a realistic chance Ederon will be available on the 29th of August and if I read correctly he'll definately be available on the 5th of September.
Today is the 29th August. I'll look into V-Net at our usual start time (19:00 CET) to see who is back from their holidays.

I'll join you then just in case. WW should be back, but I assume Ederon decided to maximize his holidays. Can't blame him for that though :) .

August 29th Session

After one month break, we played one-piece session of our good old Monday game. We were:

Wishing Well - USA
Andrew - UK
Herodotos - Germany (hosting)
Lord Ederon - Italy

We were somewhere in February 1946 at the end of session.

From the perspective of Axis not much happend (apart from what is classified and is not intended to be heard by public). Allies have broken into Lindi (East Africa) and re-occupied Belgian Congo except for Stanleyville and Costermanville. They attempted to demoralize defenders of Dar es Salam (north of Lindi), but even when Chinese troops were attacking day and night using "human wave" tactics, Dar es Salam was held by its Axis defenders.

Apart from that, Axis saw not much action. Just few naval/air battles over Atlantic and Indian ocean. Germany is launching one rocket after another on the targets as distant as US mainland, India or also closer British Isles.

At the end of the session, UK annexed Brazil and turned South America into Red-pinkish color. With US holding Pacific coast of South America, whole America is now controlled by Allies (except maybe Colombia and some other insignificant minors).

Accross Pacific ocean, where Nationalist China fights last comintern country Sovie Union, winter slowed things down. But Soviets seems to like freezing cold and retook few provinced they lost in fall '45.

There are still big battles to be fought in Africa and Europe to determine future shape of the world. The hellfire of war is still burning, but people already start to feel cold breeze which is taking over the world.

Unfortunately there were some problems with WW and Ederon with finished builds and techs. I assume the builds will sort themselves out on Monday, but the techs might be a different story. I don't know how big the damage is, especially for WW, but is it necessary to make any edits? What are the various opinions about this?

I had my share of techs not showing as researched after a rehost, and of builds being ever delayed one day further before completion. The later has always been resolved through a rehost. As for the techs luckily I always share them right away and have always found a couple months later a friend being able to give me the blueprint. I think all through the game I had like half a dozen instances when I had to research again techs. And yes I have experienced these problems even as host. I have now taken the habit of always waiting between 12 and 24 hours before acknowledging messages warning of completed researchs, and only then do I select a new project to work on.

As for myself I desire no edit at this point, and would argue that Ederon can not have had such a bad time as I had because of those problems.

At the end of session I made a save. Today, I loaded it and I was able to start both projects I couldn't start before. I don't know whether it will work in mp, but hopefully it will. For me there is no need for editing then.

No edits is the way to go it seems. Especially if Wishing_Well had to deal with this problem all game, which I didn't know or forgot in this long game, it would not be fair to suddenly start editing, because the Axis also had that problem. I just wanted to discuss it, because the damage might have been big and certain, possibly very important tech branches were possibly locked for the rest of the game.

I'd prefer if we talk about such problems right when they arise. Claiming at the end of the series you had such problem from the start only after your opponent introduced the problem is not the best way to do IMHO.

I have full understanding for what you say and you have a valid point. The thing is, however, that during Monday Game I and II several minor incidents of lost techs have been reported in public and every time it was the victim that either said it was not necessary to edit or didn't make a suggestion in that direction. All these minor incidents have led to an unofficial policy of not editing and dismissing it as part of the game (or maybe we were just lazy :) ). Since this seemed to be a much bigger incident and also having discussed the option with you in Axis chat, I thought it was good to bring the issue up and get an idea of the damage and an idea of the various opinions. The bigger scale of this might have made it worth making an exception or possibly changing this unofficial policy, though as always I would like to stress I'm not the one deciding this.

Session of September 5th

As usual, we were:

Wishing Well - USA (host)
Andrew - UK
Herodotos - Germany
Lord Ederon - Italy

We ended up somewhere at the beginning of summer '46.

After major occupation of Allied commanders ended with annexation of Brail, they turned their energy into operations against Axis. China together with UK had to face SU in the east of Asia and in India.

Until May, Allies were only preparing positions for their upcoming operations. Some troops were moved off the Africa to reinforce other parts of the front. Recently captured Lindi was one example of such strategy. Initially, Allied presence was almost 90 divisions there, at the end of session only 28.

While Allies remained holding on the fronts with Axis, Germany took the opportunity of integrating Baltic states of Lituania, Latvia and Estonia into her empire. It was rather short process, local resistance couldn't stop superior German troops on their way to victory.

As soon as spring was not only name for season, Allies started their offensives. First and very dangerous change for Axis was Persian entrance into Allies. That way Allies gained alternative access to the Asia Minor and Soviet territory between Black and Caspian Sea. Terrotory directly bordering German reich.

In Africa, Americans together with British and Mexicans started to move. First they captured Douala, that time guarded by just 9 German divisions. Second target was Ngaoundere. Outnumbered Italians could not hold for long. They were forced to withdraw after few days of battles. US continued to Yaounde and successfully repelled retreating Germans and Italians deeper into African heartlands. Libreville was left by defending Italians and was taken by US as well. Another attempt was to take over Stanleyville, but US were unable to break through. Many river crossings and hostile junge terrain were obstacles Allies couldn't overcome. For now.

On the other hand, Axis attempted to retook weakend Lindi, but their attempt was unsuccessful. But losses were high mostly on the side of defenders, while they had to face elite German and Italian panzer divisions. Another Axis offensive was held in Spain, where first attack on Malaga forced UK forces there to withdraw to Gibraltar or newarby Seville, manned by US troops.

Next session will be interesting in many ways. We should get answer to questions like where would Allied offensive in Africa stop, how would Axis cope with "Persian problem" or what would be outcome of German offensive in Spain.

Problems report

I've finished session summary. Hope you can agree with my version of what happend. If I forgot something as I usualy do, I'm not doing it intentionally :)

As for the problems I had last session, they were all solved after rehost (so it was ok from the start of the session). Technologies I couldn't research last session cause of these problems were researchable again. And production finish bug was not present on my side today AFAIK. Just few lag problems, one of which led to loss of infantry division, but that was more my stupidity than serious problem. I'm happy with last session from the side of technical problems/bugs.
