Okay, can you guys please help me with this HRE headache? I've been following all you've been saying in the other HRE FAQ about the relations to oneself, so in my current game with Bohemia I edited the savegame to have +200 self relations. I have conquered all of the HRE except the Netherlands, Savoy, Genoa, and Tuscany. All of those countries are over +150 with me, while Spain is around +0 - +30 with all of them and at -200 with me and -150 with themselves to boot (btw, Austria is no longer a contender since I annexed them about 40 years ago.) By all rights Bohemia should be elected the next HRE since I have the best relations of any other catholic nation with all the remaining HRE countries. However, when I get to the next election it still elects Felipe III of Spain instead of me. I can't figure it out. Do any of you have a clue as to what I'm doing wrong? Does my relations with other Catholic nations outside the HRE affect it at all? (My relations with France, Papal States, Spain, Portugal and Venice really suck at this point but none of them are shown as being part of the HRE so I didn't think it mattered).

If I can't get the game to vote me in is there anyway I can edit the savegame file to make myself emperor? I tried changing the line near the beginning that read emperor: SPA to BOH. That "officially" made me the emperor (it said it by my name on my monarch screen); but I didn't get the benefits that go with it, like being able to march my troops anywhere within the HRE. Is there another line that I'm missing that I need to edit?

Please help!

Hmmm... i have an idea, but i'm not sure i'm correct. You have conquered all nations within HRE- so there are no electors left anymore. Italian nations don't count, for only German princes were electors before you annexed them. Bohemia also wansn't elector. So basically you have no-one left to elect you and Spain prolly gets the job out of habit...

You could be right. I've noticed that the game tends to favor Hapsburgs for the job, even when it doesn't seem like they should be the most popular candidate. In every other game I've played the HRE is always either Austria or Spain. Maybe those two nations have some added bonus to their chances.

Here's another thought. My BadBoy is around 60 right now (the highest I've ever had it). Could that be counting against me in an election?

If you annex everyone in the HRE you hate yourself (it's a bug/oddity)-so you never vote for yourself but for your favourites Catholic country. You could edit the savefile to get round it.

Netherlands isn't part of the HRE-neither are the Italian states after about 1600.

He already did that :D

Ah, missed that. Quite difficult as it was the first item in his post.

You did say you were Catholic, didn't you?:D

Yeah, I did already edit the savefile to set my "self-relations" to +200. The Netherlands aren't officially part of the HRE but they conquered Lorraine which are still shown as being within it, so the Nederlands owns part of the HRE. Also, I realize that the Italian states aren't electors, but the other HRE thread on this board had a theory that it's your overall relations with all HRE states (not just the electors) that matter, so I made sure that my relations in Italy were better than +150.

Still don't get it. I just played ahead to the next HRE election and Spain got it again.

And yes, I'm Catholic.
