I thought this might be an interesting idea, and hope it is included!

The ability in mid to late game to pack all of your pops up into massive motherships and turn into a space faring, planet consuming fleet, moving from system to system as needed to collect resources, build your fleet, add motherships ect.

Races like the aliens from Independence Day, Tyranids, Hiigarans, and Quarians would be examples of this kind of race.

It would also be awesome to have mobile factory ships like in Homeworld to move with our fleets even if the whole race can not become mobile.

Which could play well into the robot uprising event they have already confirmed ~.^ Your AIs rise up and your meatbag population is now forced to become a mothership race.

Which could act as some sort of portable homeworld? That would be awesome.

I absolutely agree with this suggestion. And yet, I see another way a nomadic fleet culture could be applied, if no civilization takes that path.

SPACE MONGOL INVASION.

This sounds like DLC material, seriously, developing a whole gameplay based on a migrant fleet would require a lot of time and effort which would be best developed after the game itself is stable and and any initial bumps evened out.

Then a proper Battlestar Galactica mod could be made.

Having a nomadic "horde" stellar power of some description would be cool.

I remember doing this in the Stars! end-game once. I created a huge remote miner and freighter fleet, and just went from planet to planet picking each of them clean of resources. I seem to recall I could mine a planet to pretty much 0% mineral density in a single turn.

Stars! also had species living in starbases orbiting planets, rather than on the planets themselves, but mobile homeworlds would be incredibly fun, too.

i'd love to have motherships or titans like in SOASE. i'd mod in the CSO supercarriers (27km long) from halo and obliterate everything i come into contact with. while the youtuber Robbaz does the commentary. now that would be hysterical

I see this as a thing that would happen if you lost your homeworld or didn't have one to begin with...

Technologically advanced robotics-dependent civilization is overtaken by AI and becomes fully mechanical.

Proceeds to transform all assets merging into one singe being... UNICRON!!

"Destiny... you cannot destroy my... DESTINY!!!!!"
