Summary

Mouse not working when game has initialized

Description

When I start the game, mouse works fine. When the game has initilized (i.e. after loading) mouse is not visible in the game windows (Full, windowed)

Mouse pointer sometimes briefly appears, but seems to be stuck in an invisible box. Can see mouse-overs activating when moving my mouse randomly, but nothing can be clicked.

Just bought season 2, but can't play the game.

Steps to reproduce

It's an 1.9.X issue for me. Reverting to 1.8.7 solved it - In this iteration my mouse pointer works fine.

Game Version

Newest patch right now 1.9.5 , but reproducable on -all- of 1.9.X

Windows

Please check if you have any other input peripherals plugged in (joystick, controller, wheel).
If so, try disconnecting them all and check if that fixes the issue.

Hi, and thank you for your response.

Only peripherals of that type that are plugged in are keyboard and mouse.

I've tried the following, step by step, as to not introduce multiple changes per attempt:

Re-installing several times
Re-installing paradox launcher
Purging windows for paradox-files
Installing on different drives
Removing all plugged in USB except mouse and keyboard
Changing screen resolution to HD, and other non-native, resolutions. (Native is 3340 x 1440)
Streaming the game on a laptop via STEAM - same issue with mouse pointer gone after initializing
Updated all drivers via WINGET
Switching running game to other virtual desktops
Alt-tabbing like a crazy maniac, to no avail.
Changed mouse

Things not yet tried until I receive feedback;
Plugging in old HD screen instead of current Gigabyte G34WQC A (NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti)
Updating BIOS

*Edit - Spelling is hard when not getting my Victoria 3 fix.

Moving you to tech support.

I've not seen any other report like this.

Do you use any type of cursor customization, such as Mouse Trails in Windows? If so, please turn it off before playing the game.

Hi AndrewT:

As part of my own testing, I've actually turned Mouse Trails ON - to no avail. Then tried other settings adjusting speed etc. for the cursor, but same result.

Only thing I've gotten to work is reverting to older version.

No cursor customization is currently active - Issue remains.

No real idea then, sorry.

Make a new Windows user profile on this PC; log into it as that and go into Startup Apps and disable everything. Reboot then try this game under that user - any better?

Hello, could you attach a DxDiag log file (windows search -> type "dxdiag" -> launch the app and click "save all information" -> upload the log file here (or right-click to "archive" it first into a zip file if the forum doesn't allow raw log uploads).
It's possible that you might have some sort of old input device driver installed that could be messing with mouse inputs.

Hi - thank you for the reply.

Here's the DxDiag log file, attached in ZIP format :)

@Doffe Hi! You appear to have the same issue as the user in this thread https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/threads/cursor-not-working.1836370/#post-30602451
One of your peripherals installed a "Monect Hid Device" driver, which is known to mess with mouse inputs in some games. Uninstalling this driver should help with the cursor issues, unless one of your peripherals depends on it (which shouldn't be the case, as Monect themselves claim that it is a "legacy virtual device". https://community.monect.com/d/39-fuk-monect-hid-device )

Hi Sosanna!

Can confirm it's working now.

Based on your link I got it working following this guide:

I had to disable the HID monect device, and that did it.

This was done under "Device Manager" (Win 11)

I found the HID with "Monect HID Device" - I had to search entry for entry, but it can be found under properties.

I then disabled the device.

Thank you for following through with this issue :)

Kind regards,

Peter
