Since there's a province in Provence called Provence, and because the province of Provence always used to be the capital of Provence, I'd suggest you'd make the province of Provence the capital of Provence (sorry if the text makes you seasick). There's also another reason for this: I keep on seeing Provence moving their main trading port to the province of Provence after the start of the game, which makes them lose diplo points for no good reason.

I’m still playing version 1.14.4 of EU IV and there the capital of "Provence" (or rather the possessions of the Anjou) is the province of Provence. Has that been changed in a later patch?

Yes, since patch 1.19, where btw England now starts with the provinces of Maine and Alencon, the capital of Provence is now situated in Anjou. However, Provence seems to change their main trading capital (as well as their administrative capital, it looks like) back to the province of Provence as soon as they have the points to do, seemingly.

Been playing quite a few ironman France games trying to figure out a good starting point. Provence moves its trade capital, then its capital, to the province of Provence every time. At least script in something to move its capital sooner, so it doesn't waste diplo on top of the admin. Honestly though, the OP's idea is the best solution

It was already discussed in one of the earlier threads and it was concluded that Anjou should become Provence's capital due to historical reasons. The count of Provence was also the duke of Anjou and since a duke title is of a higher rank that a count (CK2 all over again) it was decided to move Provence's capital to where it is now. I think the AI behaviour should be changed so that it wouldn't instantly move the capital back to Provence instead of reverting that change.

The idea that Anjou should be the capital because of Duke of Anjou > Count of Provence is nonsense.
Le bon roi Rene was the King of Naples and Jerusalem and his highest rank was King without holding any of his kingdoms after 1444.
He was also Duke of Bar years before he became Duke of Anjou and Maine.
Placing the capital in Anjou means to make it vulnerable to english attacks during the HYW.

The only two points in favour or Anjou is that he was born in Angers and buried (not died - his remains were stolen from Provence where he died and brought to Angers) in Angers

His capital should be his main residence Provence

At game start his residence and court was in Anjou. That's why we moved it.

It's currently not possible as far as I know to script trade capital in history but if it was added we might set it to Provence.

Renee is also a very interesting individual and someone it would be very interesting to have some more content for at some point imo.

You’re right. The english WIKI has a bit more info about Rene and Anjou and they mention him in Angers from 1443 onward, until 1471 where he left and moved to Provence.

You can script trade capital in country history with "trade_port = 201".

I stand corrected then. Serves me right for answering from home without a computer to check :)
I'll see if I can put the trade port down south.

Shouldn't the tag be renamed to Anjou? Possibly with Provence as a separate releasable?
