I have a question about Multiplayer difficulties and I'm not sure where to post it, so I'll post it in MP Forum and Tech Support forum.

I am able to play MP HOI-DD between my two computers at home via the Internet just using the IP address. I do not have to play via the LAN for this to work.

My problem is trying to connect on Valkrynet. My friend and I met there via our two home computers, and we went into the HIO_2 channel. We could see each other there, and I started to HOST a game and made a password. He could see the game, clicked JOIN and typed in the password. But then it would tell him the game could be located. We tried a couple of times, and we even switched it to have him host, and still failed to locate the game.

I also tested this with my two computers at my home, and the PC that was used to JOIN could not find the game, even though it was in the list of games and allowed me to enter a password.

We also tried to connect just using the Internet MP option with IP address, but either joining or hosting, it would not work.

We each have a modem\router combo (I have cable, he has DSL)
I have ME, he has XP.

Is there something we were doing wrong?
Does XP conflict with ME in the MP version?
If it has to do with firewalls or such, why can we see the other games in the first place?
Do you need to register somehow with Valkrynet? If so, where do you go to do that?

I will greatly appreciate any help, and if these questions have already been answered somewhere else, could someone could point me to that post?

Thank you...

check your checksum (i.e. are you playing the same version?)
look at the letter combination on the loadscreen next to where it says hoi2dd

Thanks,

Yes, we did make sure of that and we are playing identical versions of HOI DD with the patch and REBB.

It was just weird that we could see eachother on vNet and even see the game that was created, but when trying to join it, whether is it was he or I hosting (we tried it both ways) the game could not be located.

Is it possible that the vNet server has limited capacity and was maxed out at the time?

no - it must be a router issue. Read the sticky at the top of the mp forum or use hamachi.cc if u cant figure it out.

Thanks Fiendix,

I am but an ignorant savage when it comes to PC stuff, but I will check it out and see if I can figure out what to do to fix issue.
