Hello, so I'm new to the game, I've played like 3 games so far with my current one at turn 134. I find that personally I find the undead the most effective to play as with the +% mana perk and Prayer to Kryta to start off with. I then build a mana producing structure and expand with my settlers ASAP normally building 2 additional cities as soon as I can do so while using my initial units to defend. I normally build a harbor after my mana structure and then start building my navy (I play on island maps alot).

However these have all been exclusively single-player games, and I'm unsure whether this is a good "build" for MP games or whether there is a metagame for MP and/or certain tactics people use. That said I was wondering if people could post below how they play MP and what they think the best strats are for MP.

MP games usually are played on Great Lands/Supercontinent maps as it is very hard to invade an island defended by a human player. I played one duel game on islands (or perhaps continents, not sure now..) before and it was fun, but incredibly long.

The last trends I have seen are rushing, with iril bowmaster or koatls warlocks being the most effective. There are others who rush with frozen ring spell, vampires, or mages. There is a multiplayer tournament currently taking place, and the last 4 players in gam seem to have somewhat different strategies, it will be interesting to see who fares better.

Undead is perfectly viable, especially since you don't need to worry about food. Getting access to mercs or other races early may be important if your enemy uses life magic though.
Also bats are the best scouting units in game, allowing you to collect a lot of loot early game.

The game is new enough to where no one knows what's viable or not and what's OP or UP. I like that for now.

As for me I've played what I estimate to be 17 multiplayer 1v1's and I've lost 4 while winning 13. I only use the Elves and take Treasury, Mana Stockpile, Farmer, and Instructor. The farmer and instructor give me an advantage late game with larger cities and higher level units. I just have to worry about being rushed during the early game and building enough units to hold the enemy back while also producing enough settlers since more cities will pay off more later with my abilities.

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller
