I vaguely remember that in HOI 3 the tech tree cross indexed quite a bit so that, for instance, if you weren't researching artillery you wouldn't be able to build competent tanks or anti-aircraft, either one, not to mention army or naval artillery.

I didn't play HOI 2 enough to recall if that were the case here.

In darkest hour there is some cross referencing...but it's fairly early. Not so much later on.

There is some cross reference, but I do not see anything into artillery.

You are the one who wrote the strategy guide for HoI3 IIRC!

Yes, and spent what seemed like several months in the beta pre-release, and some time after release also.

So I didn't have much to do with developing that philosophy with the tech tree cross referencing, but I hartily approved of it. And I remember I had to crawl through alot of this cross referencing to understand the tech strategies, etc.

It was a lot of fun! Gosh I still love that game. :D

I looked it up on GoG. Maybe next time it is on sale I will pick it up. Maybe I will free up hard drive space on my computer. Maybe I will update my computer.

Okay. I started a thread with the same scenario, but difficulty increased to VH. It is going to be a few days before I actually start. Goal is to start on Friday. In the mean time, I will try to discuss a few subjects related to the start of the game and a general strategy.

There are still some concepts in game strategy that I do not understand.

This game is paused for a while. Sorry.

Not a huge deal, can't wait to see what the VH gets up to!

Unfortunately, they did not do that in the end. Certainly, they combined some things (like how for some reason, Heavy Tank Armor increases the armor on TD and heavy tanks), but things like an aircraft's machine gun did not cross-level with other machine guns. Or how naval armament was all siloed by ship type.

It was one of the failings that I always wanted to harp on. Well, that's why I'm building my own mod for my ultimate AAR (eventually).
