i know it says its a single player game, but im just gonna put my request in now for a multiplayer mode aswell because:

games are better with friends- always
this game looks like good potential for competing colonies or co-op play - granted no idea how game plays or mechanics XD

I agree. Any sort of multiplayer would be a great adition.

I would love to see competitive multiplayer, i.e. a sort of revamp of the classic space race between SU and USA. As the game heads for a classic theme and different sponsors were mentioned, this could be fun. :)

However, a cooperative multiplayer could be fun too: Two players could build up the base together to get the best results.

It would depend on the actual game design which one would be better suited, but in any case: I'd love to play this with my friends. ;)

For now, it is single player only - however, when you can share the coordinates of the map that you pick to colonize and share that with other players. That way you can all build on the same map - it is kind of interesting to see how different each colony comes out. Not the same I know - but it is an interesting feature.

in terms of a multipalyer game should it not be an easy thing to add to the game? I can already see the two (or more) colonies spawning at the sides of the map where they have to race each other to have the most colonists most domes etc.

I wish this was something that was easy to implement - but it is something that actually is a lot harder and time consuming than it seems. Whereas multiplayer would, I'm sure, be a nice feature, at the moment single player is the only thing on the table and we have chosen to focus all of our efforts into making the single player great. However, I have noted down your interest in this and have fed it back to the team :)

The problem I see with multi-player is that it is something that really needs to be in the design from the beginning. Data structures, user interfaces, data storage methods, and several other things are designed a fair bit differently if they are being made with multiple users in mind compared to a single player game.

It is fine if the first version released doesn't have the multiplayer aspects fully implemented and there might be some rough spots in multiplayer that developers don't think is ready for the regular user community. The issue is more of one trying to retrofit that multi-player capability onto it after the fact and becomes often so difficult that it becomes a near total rewrite of the software to the point it becomes better to simply trash the whole codebase and start over from scratch. Trashing the codebase is never cheap.

Would you care to elaborate? I don't understand your argument as to how this is a false statement.

Its pretty straightforward: games are not always better with friends. Therefore, the statement is false.

Do you need me to say ‘I don’t like playing multiplayer’ to provide an example of an instance in which games are not better with friends?

It all depends on how they plan to implement a lot of the features, but there are some really cool ways to do city builder type games multiplayer.

One example is how they did multiplayer in simcity. While the most recebt iteration was far from perfect, and its implentation was poor, the basic premise of how they did multiplayer was probably inexpensive to implement and was a really cool way to allow players to interact without sacrificing the singleplayer aspect of the game.

If when you start your game you are given an entire "planet" and you can implement colonies on different parts of the planet, it would be really fun to be able to specialize and trade with the other colonies, compete to reach goals, help each other in disasters, and compete for resources. It doesn't have to be a war game to be interesting.

Another advantage to that idea is how you don't neccessarily both have to be online at the same time to play together, but you still get to interact. I lived being able to play with friends across timezones, check each others progress, etc.

On the flip side to this, it would also be cool if you simply shared a colony and both worked to manage the same colony cooperatively. It would be more difficult to keep interesting and more difficult to implement, but I am hapoy either way. I just hope for a way to interact with friends in this game. For me multiplayer is essentially a requirement.
