Summary

Multiplayer Active Sessions not showing

Description

For some time now, the screen for the multiplayer active sessions take lots of time to show something, if at all. I get some errors like 'an internal error has occured' which is normal for the last months. We could play with this error though. Now 2 out of three times I don't even see my three sessions I am playing in.

The games we play are still pre empire & ashes generated sessions if this is interesting. One of the games just had to be reset because a combat won't start, initiated by the npcs. I own the expansion pass (which does not show on the upper right. There it shows Dragon Dawn and Empire & Ashes are owned but for the pass it states: now available...)

Steps to reproduce

Open the game and then Online-Multiplayer

Platform

Steam

Game Version

1.005.006.87265

Owned DLCs

  • Dragon Dawn
  • Empires and Ashes

Optional

Affected Feature

  • Multiplayer

Hi Jordi, since I don't know which is which, I added all logs to this .rar . I just reinstalled the game, could finish a turn of a game I had reset earlier and after that, I got the same errors again. Just to let you know.

i would like to say that some players in our multiplayer community have a similar issue which is SOMETIMES they cannot see their ongoing mp games
usually restarting the game and steam solve this problem but in rare situations the mp games are gone forever no matter what they do

Same issue here. Active Session list is empty for a few days now.

GOG Version incl. Dragon Dawn DLC

restarting AoW4 or Reboot of the PC did not help.

Attached the Logs

I found workaround for the problem. You can make new paradox account and start new game and it will be in active sessions.
So I think the problem is in connected to the account and that is why I cant find games with the main account.

This would explain why AoW3 is still running smooth and for years(Triumph account) and AoW4 keeps telling me about slow/bad connections. My connection is solid, maybe this Paradox account is the issue. I am glad I only use it for AoW4. But since AoW4 has all the MP issues we mostly prefer to play AoW3 anyway.

My connection is of no problem in any other game I play, has never been. After nearly 5000 hours of AoW3 we all have been so enthusiastic about AoW4 comming out. Now a year later, we skipped AoW4 the third time in a row after trying to start a new MP game live. We play only MP: we play daily AoW3 (which is fun and stable even with dozens of mods) and once per week, every week, we play live. We really wanted to switch to AoW4, but it behaves in MP like a Early Access Game...

Done with AoW4 for now. Unbelievable and sad. The sheer number of bugs mentioned here on a daily basis is unbelievable too for a game now a year old. What happend to Triumph Studios? :(

Edit: And yes there are active sessions. Most times they get shown and if I am persistant and lucky I get in too.

Whenever i try to join back into a Multiplayer game of me and my Friend, the game would load a while and then immediatle throw me back into the lobby. On the first try it tells me that my connection to the game services is bad. While in loading screen it allways tells me "internal error" befor im back to lobby. My general connection is fine though (Fibre, 12 ping and more than enough bandwidth)

Me and more of my Friends have this problem. It is really frustrating. I tried to make a new account, but the problem keeps accuring.
Can we expect a fix?

I might add something that helps: I noticed that the issue goes away completely when i use a vpn. No clue why that would change anything but maybe someone with the right technical knowledge does. After i did everything else (including trying a different pc, network cable, switch and even reinstalling windows) that was my last resort... and it worked.

Alright, first of all it doesn't help your own case or us to just make posts after Major Updates have occurred without also providing the previously requested information. As stated before "Internal Error Occurred" typically means nothing more than a Timeout i.e. it was not able to retrieve your sessions within the allocated time. That can be because of the high number of sessions or due to slow connections.

A fresh account worked because it has no existing Sessions to retrieve, that doesn't make it a viable workaround. A VPN can work because it may choose a location closer to the server locations.

Today I discovered the same problem (active sessions disappear) as described in the first message of the topic.
A few days ago, a friend of mine who lives in another country also had the exact same problem. Active sessions sometimes appear and then disappear again. The problem is new to me.

It has become impossible to play multiplayer and the problem is already occurring among three players in our small gaming community of 15 people. Despite the fact that we are all in different countries. The other two players have not written to you here yet.
Explain what we should send you? We do not have a game log, because the problem (it is precisely described in the first message of the topic) occurs when trying to enter multiplayer to see active sessions - suddenly the screen loading became very slow and there were no available sessions. Sometimes they appear but more often they disappear. It is enough to switch from the active sessions screen to the available sessions screen many times and then sometimes the sessions appear again.
