I've been totally unable to participate in any of the games launched via ValkyrieNet or direct IP. I'm running on a LAN, through a cable-proxy hookup... When I try to join, I get the error message "No game found at xxx IP", and it dumps me back into the game channel on VNet where another obscure message is periodically displayed: "You were connected to the game."

Anyone else have this problem? And does anyone have any tips as to how to get around it?

Thanks,
Lac

I have the same problem on the computer at work. It's on LAN and there is proxy and firewall and I don't know what else :(
But at home with 56 k modem there is no problem. Perhaps your problem is the firewall. Read "Guide for newbie ..." thread, there are some anstructions.

The "you were connected to the game" feature is a bug. :) It happens all the time to me, too, even when I've never even tried to join a game. So ignore that. As for your other issue, yep, classic NAT or firewall symptoms (or proxy, I suppose). Your PC has to be able to accept incoming TCP connections, ports 2300-2400 (all of them) and 47624. With your current network setup I'm not sure there's anything you can do except use port forwarding or somehow avoid the proxy. Also, make sure your ISP doesn't use a NAT. You have to have a real, routable IP address from your ISP for any of this to work. Don't even ask me to help you with that, because I really can't learn every system out there. :D Consult specialized networking forums or newsgroups. I know they exist.
