Not sure if I might get more help in the MP forum, but here goes.

Okay, so we decided to pick up a 2nd copy so my roomate and I could play together (with minimal stabbing-in-the-back, I swear ;) ), but every single time we try to play, Victoria will crash whichever computer *isn't* the host within 10 days... without fail, sometime between Jan 4 and the latest we made it, Jan 10.

My desktop is using '98, and his laptop has XP. I think it may have something to do with 98 on my desktop, because everytime you choose Internet (to directly input IP's, like I had to for EUII LAN) or LAN game, the desktop comp will freeze for a sec, give the windows gong, then move on to 'select game' when you hit escape.

As I said, we've tried with both computers as hosts in turn... when my desktop hosts, the laptop crashes (and a hard laptop crash ain't fun :p), and vice versa when the laptop hosts. Other than that, it connects fine... works just like EUII ever did for me. Tried it through the hub, and then a crossover cable.

Just curious if anyone else has had any problems of the same sort before I waste anytime overhauling network parts. Every other game works fine however. Also, I know there was a fix for the original 1.01 patch, but that was before our release, so we have the 1.01 that Patric has stated is good to go.

Well, thanks for any advice/help in advance. :)

I have this exact same problem between a Win2k and an XP machine. The server seems to run fine but the client locks up completely withing a minute or two.

edit: actually we both uninstalled, deleted directories then reinstalled and ran the latest patch. problem gone now. :)

Well, that makes one of us that it works for now. :p

I decided to try and make the effort to fix everything, from the point of it being a problem on my network's side. Installed XP Pro on my desktop, which actually did eliminate the little nuances that I noticed in the first place (the windows gong, having to hit escape to move on in the MP menus). However, still the same ol' problems.

Taking a note from EUII, I noticed that every single time, which has been quite a few, we tried to play (we're hardheaded, what can I say? ;) )... whenever the laptop hosts the game, the desktop will crash on Jan 9, when the laptop is on Jan 11... and when the desktop hosts, the laptop will always crash on Jan 5 when the desktop is on Jan 9. So the client computer is always lagging a bit... changing the speed of the game seemed to have no effect, never trying above below normal.

Oh well, guess I can wait in vain, this doesn't seem like a big issue being experienced by anyone else, so I won't expect it being worked on in the next patch. At least it encouraged me to move to XP... I don't have to waste my RAM... anything above 768 disabled my 3D card in '98  ... woo 1GB! :D

MP should be less laggy in 1.02
