Hi. I'm a long time HOI player but I'm a complete noob at multiplayer and I'm having trouble setting it up whichever way I try.
My system is Windows Vista SP1, running no firewalls or anything of that sort, software version is Doomsday Armageddon 1.2. I will go into my modem's settings if necessary but I don't think there's an issue there.
I've tried connecting this computer directly to another, running Windows XP Professional and also no firewalls, through ethernet. File sharing works, the computers can ping each other's IP just fine, and most other games work too, but not HOI. The server created on either computer is not visible on another. Connection fails both through LAN and through Direct IP. There's no reason to try Valkyrnet since it's been shut down recently.
I've tried connecting by Direct IP over the internet to other computers running HOI but the result is the same. I've tried using Hamachi to emulate virtual LAN with them and still, the result is the same.
My computer has two real network adapters - ethernet and wireless, and one virtual - hamachi. I use my wireless to connect to the internet. My only observation so far is that it appears that the game starts working on my LAN as soon as I disable the wireless adapter. However, this is unacceptable to me because it means I can't play the game over the internet. Any suggestions or links that may help?
