So it seems I am unable to host an MP game. Upon making the game, the server ID never shows up, it's just stuck on "Waiting for Game Server ID" and friends are unable to join.

It might be worth noting that almost the same thing happens whenever I try to host in Europa Universalis IV or Crusader Kings II.

At some point in the past I was able to host and then I was no longer able to host anymore. Then I was able to for awhile and then not anymore. I've had no hardware changes (IE router or anything) so this leads me to believe this is something wrong with the games or something wrong with STEAM MP on my end, since all new Paradox games use STEAM.

As a last tid-bit of information, I figured it would be worth noting that I've tried this with all ports opened (router in DMZ) and even with all firewalls off, and running STEAM in administrative mode.

I've looked forever for a solution. Here and there I've seen people with similar, perhaps even the same issue but I have never seen any solutions.

Please please for the love of god someone help me. I want to figure this out because it's bothering the hell out of me.

What worked yesterday for me was to not refresh the internet list as the one joining and have the host at the game server lobby invite the one wanting to join via the steam-friend invite to game. But the setting up a multi-player game does indeed still has some issues. And in my point of view if I create a server it should show up in the list of servers.
Once one does get it to run it runs very smooth we had no out of sync problems.

I can't even invite people to my game though. I never have the option to invite them to my game through STEAM. I believe this is linked to there not being a server ID, as I said the server ID is red and says "Waiting for server ID".

People have told me to open ports but that can't be the issue. All of my ports for STEAM are open and also my router is DMZ'd so ports can't be why. It's something up with STEAM MP on my end. Weird thing is that the only other games that do this are EUIV and CK2. I can host in Hearts of Iron 3, Victoria 2, and pretty much any other game perfectly fine.

After having this issue for over a year in EU and CK and now Stellaris I've finally lost my marbles hence I'm posting here.

So I rebooted my router completely, double checked that my ports were open, and then it still didn't work. Can someone from Paradox acknowledge this as an issue for people or something?

CK2, EUIV and now Stellaris are the only games where I have this issue, and I shouldn't because they use STEAM mp. I simply don't get it.

Seems they now have added an option to add the server ID directly in the patch 1.0.2
The server ID itself can be checked by the host by mousing over the lower right small box shaped icon.

No, the problem is that there is NO server ID. I mouse over the icon and it says "Waiting for server ID". But it never comes. When I host, I am never assigned a server ID.

Still having this issue. I find it hard to believe that there are so few people that are having this issue, but the fact that there's almost no one having this issue tells me it's probably something specific that the people who are having the issue have in common and maybe even obvious.

Not a solution but have you tried joining another host instead? If that also does not work, and if you have the option to do so, are you able to connect your PC through a direct connection from the modem instead of through the router? (I know DMZ should technically do the same). Another option could be to try and connect your PC to an internet connection of someone else, like a friend, family or such just to test if it does the same there to try and see if the problem is on the PC or in the network settings.

I've fixed the issue.

It was caused by the Space Engineers Dedicated Server service running in the background taking up port 27016. Killing the service fixed the issue.

I can't believe it was caused by that. Anyone else who has this problem I hope they see this.

I have the same issue in ck2. It’s great that u fixed it but what does this even mean lmao. Can u explain how to de activate space engineers? And what port 27016 even is. Thx

You've replied to a 7 year old thread on a different game. Do not do this.
