Does anyone else agree with me that you need to be a bit insane to engage in a multiplayer game in the Hearts of Iron series?

I say this because games take forever, almost literally so!

Don't know how people with work and social lives can dedicate the DAYS it takes to play MP... it's amazing.

I salute those that do play MP, you must be doing something right in life to not be working, I'm being serious as work kind of sucks -- and to those that work and have families, how do you find the time???

Anyhow, I think you have to be fairly insane to play full MP games in this, not to mention many times it's as fun as watching paint dry. I love the game, but I've tried MP and the people are way too good for my blood, first of all, and second they have way too much time, time I sadly don't have :(

quit wasting time posting on these boards and get back to work, and clean up after those kids!

:p

Yeh I agree get back to work. Your interupting my gaming time.

We have one of our Aussie group games goign for about 3 months now..Date is 1943. One day a week between set times. Not too much of a sacrifice to make.

That's not too bad actually, if you just spend a little time on it each week like that.

I'm really referring to the people that play those marathon games lasting more than 10 hours at a clip.

As for a once a week group, good idea really.

Seems quite a few people play 10 hours day every day....and fail just about every exham but oh well. :)

Well we have had our fair share of marathon sessions but if you have 8-10 players its good to narrow it down to a 4 hour session once or twice a week to ensure all are available..at least the Major powers. Sometimes we leave AI in control for a session if a minor Ally cannot make it under military control.

No kidding, HoI is no FPS.

The monday group has now reached autumn '45 all the way from september '38 by playing 4 or 5 hours each week.

The key word is DEDICATION.

I agree with you that it's not easy to play this game in MP...but playing the AI is so boring and MP is so cool that you need to find some time to play.

Unfortunatly I never had the chance to play a long lasting game. The first few game I played the german player was always atacking before danzig and as UK or France I had no chalenge and I was annexing germany fast enough...

A couple of other game I played, the people I played with just disapear after the first session so impossible to continu. As for playing always the same day it's impossible for me: I live in Montreal, so there is not a lot of people that play from 7 to 11 North america eastern time on the week and I can't commit to play like EVERY friday night or EVERY saturday.

I am in NYC, so could play during those times -- should we start a North Eastern group, meet once a week at a pre-arranged time?

I'm interested in MP, just didn't know people broke it up into once a week blocks, that makes it much more playable!

I diss agree with you realy.

I play a bit HOI2 in our group, and well har to say exactly, but i will guess we play twice a week, about 4-8 hour sessions, maby sometimes its just once a week, and the hours can vary a bit.

I have a full time job, and work as a ATC, this job gives me however many hours to play, because of safety rules, im only allowed to work a limited number of workhours pr week.
This gives me 18 days a month with spere time.

For many of the players on our group, need to get up 5 am to play with us, due to the distanse between us, (im in Sweeden, he is in Alaska), and this is good comitment, and no problem as long as we all enjoy the game, and we have developed systems and ways, who have taken some months but its working good now, and this systems help us all enjoy the game, (sys can be houserules, gametime, rescadulerules ect) who realy is just 1 big compromise, made between all the 10 players.

Its not realy insane to play HOI2, its just insane to do it on vnet.

I too would be willing to be in an eastern US group. I'm on central time though, so I'd have to know the hours and only once a week. The time would have to be solid too, not 'around sixish until whenever'. If you say six to ten every tuesday, then I can commit and plan around it :) Well, seven to ten or eleven because I'd probably be an hour behind you guys

I think I'll start a thread and see who bites!

you need to get your priorities in order. hoi2 ,food and water and sleep if you must. all else is a distraction!!!!!!!!!!!

For those who spent weeks playing a single game of civilization 2 gold hoi is pretty fast, and when one considers that a typical game of the boardgame World in Flames usually takes MONTHS to complete, it becomes almost fps in it´s
celerity in comparison :) .

But yeah, HoI MP sure is more than most people have time to complete in a single, or even a couple of days. The time invested however gives good return in enjoyment and immersion. I love it :D
