I know the title says Multiplayer, but hear me out.

Last night, my friend and I decided to install HOI2 and start a game online. We installed, starting with:

-Vanilla Doomsday
-GIP 0.6
-Armageddon 1.2
-DAIM (DD/ARMA)
-CCIP

We installed in that order, at the same time (over teamspeak). When I joined VNet to host a game, I was asked the usual "do you want to use a password?" question, and I clicked enter to ignore it. My game froze. Total lockup. I had to do a hard reboot with my power button to get out of it. So when I was finished rebooting and got back into the game, we decided to try the "Internet" option, so i tried to click "host" and once again, I locked up. Same deal as last time. The last thing I tried was LAN, via Hamachi, and the same thing happened. So my game is going into lock down mode as soon as I try to set up a server.

I tried reinstalling the game, to no effect.

I don't understand what is happening, but I have a though that I'd like to put out there before I just ask for any and all help. I reformatted my computer probably around a week and a half ago. Before then, I had been surviving without a reformat since March 2007 (which apparently is a long time to not reformat.) During that period, I could play the game just fine, both online and offline. I have played with this same friend on multiple occasions, and many times with others. So I'm convinced that I have a different system configuration than before, that would for some reason not allow me to access the game's multiplayer resources. I should also mention that my friend tried to host a game himself, thinking that it might have just been me, and he can. He is doing just fine, but I still can't join his game because mine freezes whenever I try to use any Multiplayer functionality.

I have no idea what could be causing this, and I really want to play the game online, so I'm in something of a rut. I'll ask for any and all help that the community can offer me, and I thank you for your time and effort! :)

did you always try to host a game without a password? if not, try to host one that is password-protected.

and i have not idea what kind of mod GIP is, but try to install arma directly after installing dd

I tried the game both with and without a password. No success. GIP is Graphic Improvement Pack, or something close to that. It changes the look of the game with color pictures of ministers, leaders, tech teams, etc... It doesn't change any critical game files, only image files. Hypothetically, it wouldn't affect anything no matter when it is installed...

*EDIT*

I just tried reinstalling, Vanilla Doomsday. Still the same problem. I'm assuming that my problem is in something I forgot to reinstall, or something that I reinstalled that I shouldn't have after my reformat. Not sure, but I don't have the slightest clue as to what it is...

Here's some threads that seem to have similar problems...which I might add become infinitely more difficult to find when the "Server is too busy right now" for 23 out of 24 hours every day...

http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?t=292094

...except I can't get to the Host button, I freeze on the screen where that button is located...

http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?t=342312

...seems like my exact problem, except the link given only helps with Router issues, and I don't think my router is the problem...

http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?t=197605

...except I don't have Norton, and none of those answers help even in the least. I don't know where to turn. It is impossible for me to say if It is my ports that need to be forwarded, since I can't even get anywhere near an MP game.

http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?t=185170

...again, seems like the same problem, no solutions listed...

http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?t=187558

...ditto...

Interesting Development...

I unplugged my Internet Cable from my computer to try to play HOI2 on my laptop, and the same thing happened on my laptop. However, on my disconnected (from the internet) desktop, I was able to access the LAN menu, like I could not before. So perhaps it is a port forwarding problem, I guess I'll look into that. If anyone can offer anything, I'll take it...

Solved!! :D

I didn't have to open up any ports, all I had to do was reset my router. Apparently it wasn't giving my computer the appropriate permissions since I had reformatted, and having reset the router, it now recognized that my computer is trying to access the internet. So... thanks for bearing with me.
