Multiplayer problem joining a LAN game

Sometimes when I play a LAN game with my friends we have a problem that even though the version of the game is the same and you can very well see the hosted game you just can't join it. The button to join the game is available, but when you press it it either freezes for sometime as if it would be loading or nothing just happens. Sometimes when you restart the game or try a couple of times it will join the game and sometimes it takes a bit longer.

Last time when we played it was a huge problem and we had to wait like 30 mins to get it work and it was always with the same computer. We also tried hosting the game with different computers, but it didn't help. Also the firewall was turned off.

Is there some solution for this? It would be very helpful for our gaming sessions in future.

I or my friends have had this happen too. Unfortunately it seems that Paradox games aren't that great when it comes to connecting to other players. I personally can't even play in the Valkyrienet (or whatever it's called) and am forced to use Hamachi to play LAN matches.
