Multiplayer problems

I'm having serious problems with hosting/joining any game. I come as far as into LAN, valkyrienet and internet. But then when I press Host or Join nothing happens. I've tried all I can think of (upgrading all hardware drivers, updating windows, reinstalling game, reinstalling 1.02 patch, making sure no background applications are running, browsing these forums for a solution and so on).

Anyone know what it can be or got a solution?

I have the same problem. I didn't have it until I rebuilt my system today. My new specs are:
AMD XP 2200+
Gigabyte GA-7VAXP w/VIA KT400 chipset
256mb DDR400
64mb GeForce4 MX440
56k modem

I reinstalled windows 98 as well.

I'm confused as to how far you guys can get. Can you actually get into vnet?? (It is down at the moment though)
