1. What speed is usually chosen for mp games?
2. Is it often difficult to handle a country when multiple attacks are occuring?
3. What stops a French MP from building forts like crazy to bog a German player down.
4. In North Africa do MP players goes crazy with amphib landings?
5. In HOI2, a JAP human can steamroll Nat China AI very quickly. Do MP games require a Nat China human player to keep the game balance?

Any good MP stories to tell?

1. The speed is typically as high as it can be without causing lag with any players, or without making battles too difficult to handle.

2. You bet. Multi managing a warring nation on multiple fronts is horrible since pausing is more restricted usually.

3. The fact that if one spent all ones time building forts, one would have no units to man those forts....?

4. I would guess so, as there is too much land mass to cover and so many beaches to watch. if a amphib landing can be done, it typically is/should be since it will make havoc for the defender to deal with.

5. LOL. WELL, I played Nat China in High Command Group once, and I can tell you I got rolled over, though I held my own well against an experienced player. With Japan victory in China, the game will typically go very one sided though, as Japan will be too powerful---then again, maybe some others have experienced a different situation. Can't say.

As for MP stories, just read the HC Group AAR topic---the wartime posts can be quite riveting, and are complete with maps and such.

So what is a typical game speed? "As high as it can be" doesn't answer my question.
Where can I find the HC Group AAR topic? I didn't see it on this forum...

Also have a look for the Monday Game group and especially the AARs. Just click my sig below. We play with up to 14-15 palyers at once, and so we play at slow. The most time consuming thing are crashes, though.

Here's my two cents on the topic...

1. Most groups I've been in do Normal Speed for peacetime. Wartime tends to vary from below normal to very slow. Typically the lag factor determines the high end and the low end is a debate between those who want to be able to micro-manage (very slow) and those who value tactics (below normal).

2. You're most likely going to have not only multiple attacks but multiple THEATRES to deal with. So, it can be difficult. Game speed is obviously a factor.

3. Airpower negates fortresses, you can attack around fortresses, concentrate all firepower on one fortress province to breach, amphib behind the line, paratroopers... there's a lot of ways around forts

4. If you're inquiring about the Axis - then that would require Axis naval control of the Med, not an easy task; If you're referring to the Allies, that would require troops, something in short supply (pre-USA), so it's usually a matter of priority and Africa tends not to be the highest on the list (outside of Italian players sometimes)

5. Even if Japan takes out China, the USSR and the USA both have significant IC to counter a "super-Japan"

In multiplayer, if you are playing with all the major countries Human controlled, you'll find that a 'super japan' really isn't helpful.

The allies have their hands full with the rest of the Axis enough.
