Hello,
one of my biggest wishes for all paradox games is that the space bar triggers pause like in SP. When you have to react fast it is very annoying to go to the top left/right corner with your mouse every time.
I play with one or two friends regularly and we all agree that it would be good when its like in SP.
And i hear you that the space bar pause would be greatly annoying in a large multiplayer, so I suggest to put an option for the host to enable or disable it.

The problem is actually the MP chat - the game would pause after every word anyone typed ... !

Use the pause/break-key. It works.

After some time you get used to it...
Or maybe you use a software to remap pause to space.

is it that hard to make it so that when typing in chat hotkeys are disabled? or allow it but force chat to be disabled, since most people play using discord, skype, teamspeak....
The issue is also with people who think they're typing in the chat box but actually aren't. We've all typed out half a sentence before realizing we weren't actually in the box at some point, even if it isn't playing a paradox game.

During multiplayer I usually have Steam chat or Skype/VOIP on to talk with people I am playing with. The ingame chat is "OK" but I find that it's usually just in the way.

No. That would be like saying everytime someone in chat typed 'e' or 't' the map modes would change, or a dozen other shortcut effects.

I'd assume the truth is that once you're in "chat mode", keys are redirected to the chat until the message is sent thus exiting chat mode.

I like the pause requiring a bit more thought, it means I'm not stuck waiting for people to make decisions as much. Because they need to think about hitting pause, most of my regular MP friends do everything while the game is running.
