Multiplayer versions incompatible

So I am pretty new to multiplayer and i am trying to get in to multiplayer with a friend. We had some trouble but eventually we decided to use Hamachi and join each other by using the Join internet game option. I am capable of finding his game however it says that our versions are incompatible. We decided to uninstall our game on Steam and remove every single file(like mods) of CK 2 manually after that. Then we reinstalled, tried it agian, same problem. It seems that my version is called CK 2 1.04 (CPGP) but his is CK 2 1.04 (MLLI). By the way, he lives in Canada, I live in the Netherlands, could be an explanation.

Where you live has nothing to do with it. Why would we want to stop people from different countries playing MP against each other?

Your checksum is right, his is wrong. Note that when you write the version you need the letter, so yours will be 1.04c, correct?

If his says 1.04b he has not applied the latest update. If it says 1.04c then he has but it's gone wrong and he needs to do a full clean reinstall:

If he has the game from Steam: uninstall the game from Steam and move any valued save games elsewhere. Manually delete the CK2 directories from under the Steam AND MyDocuments folders, now reinstall the game via Steam.

If GamersGate: Move valued save games elsewhere, and uninstall the game. Manually delete the CK2 directories from where GG put them and from MyDocuments. Reinstall the game , download 1.04c patch again and apply it.

Thank you very much the problem was that I didn't delete the directories from the steam folder. Once again thanks for your help.

Keep in mind that having mods "turned on" will also change your checksum.
