Dear Kim,

Lots of info on the game lately, thank you for that.

About multiplayer the info is somewhat limited. Could you tell us a little more about how it works?

On the website it says you can have 10 players online simultaneously.
Can you have 4 vs 6 player battles? Or 2 vs 3?

Is it possible to start a game if the defined number of players for the hosted game is not met, in other words can you start a game that is not full?
This would be very handy, as players often call for a game start when it seems no new players are entering a game lobby. (In ETW this is not possible, so you have to fill the missing players with AI ships, very annoying).

How does the set up of a game by the host work?
How many parameters can the host set up? I assume he can choose the map, weather, reality levels and type of game, but can he also set up or limit the sort of available ships, skill buttons on/off, victory conditions etc?

How do players get their ships?
Does every player have to choose his ship(s) himself or does the host allocate them to the player?
If the player chooses himself, are there limitations like a budget? In other words do you choose to go for an expensive SoL or for 2 cheaper frigates?
How many ships can players have in a multiplayer battle? What is the maximum of ships in the entire online game?

Game management
Is it possible for the host to kick a player in game?
What happens if a player drops from the game? Does ai take over his ships? Or are they just out of control? Hopefully the game will always continue so that the fun is not spoiled entirely when a player quits or drops.
Is it possible for players to surrender, retreat or claim victory?

Communication and identification
Will there be a general lobby? Will there be a game lobby?
Is it possible to see who is the owner of a ship in the game? In other words when you click on it can you see who is the player? Is it possible to customize ship colors and sails in an online game?

What are the various game types in multiplayer?

Any more info would be very much appreciated. Thx

Arno

PS: Greg (Cruizer), sorry I did not see your previous posting on this.

Not a problem. Hopefully yours will garner a response. :) Your post is more detailed than mine. I tend to be in a bit of a hurry. :)

Until recently I did not have a fast enough connection to make online play feasible. Buccaneer has a decent online lobby. Players joining after the start of a game get an option to choose a side. I do not know if EIC has pre-determined teams or furball mode (everyone for them selves).

It will be interesting to get some answers.

Greg.

I guess my question is best put here too.

Will there be a scenario editor so in MP games you can set up your own battles?

Might this scenario editor be useable in real time in an MP session and the resulting scenario be downloaded to each players PC?

Could we please be able to name our own ships and give them any of the 8 nationalities?

I'm thinking the game ship database has your basic Indiaman. You select it, name it "Demeter" then allocate it to the Danish Trading Company, then place it in a position and heading on a map. Then add other ships to the same side or opposing side.

Could we have by any chance 3-sided battles online? Or more?

MP would be extremely important for creating a strong community... and later abuse our addiction and throw out cheap expansions.. :p

no but honestly... TW failed at creating a strong MP community, there was no clan support, editors, game modes.. so hopefully EiC will be a pleasant surprise. :)

Indeed the creation of a strong community (which is -important-!) depends a lot on the developers will to assist in such. Clan support, visible player profiles (possibly?) and some kind of matchmaking (possibly?) will increase the lifespan of a multiplayer easily. For example Quake Live has done all this quite well in my opinion. Hopefully we will see fierce battles in EIC!

Here is list of EIC multiplayer modes with short descriptions. Total ship limit in any game mode is 12. Official announcement on this will go out in few days I think.

Last Ship Floating

It’s every player for himself. Last player alive wins.
Players: 2-12
Ships per player: 1-5

Team Deathmatch

Two teams shoot it out 18th century style.
Players: 2-12
Ships per player: 1-5

Domination

Capture buoys to accumulate points for your side. The side to reach point limit first wins.
Players: 2-12
Ships per player: 1-5

Commander vs. Commander

Two players. Win by destroying all your opponent’s ships before time runs out.
Players: 2
Ships per player: 1-5

Team vs. Team

Multiple players in two teams. Win by destroying the other team before time runs out.
Players: 2-6
Ships per player: 2 or 3

Feels like quite good MP modes ;)

Palisadoes, the maximum number of ships in a battle is 12. The maximum number of players is 12. The more players, the fewer ships each can command. In a 12-player battle each can only command one ship.
