Take a look at what other TSRs you have running in the background, one of them may have issued a sound which caused the CK to lose the ability.

Also do you still have sound effects.

I find it strange that you both had this problem start at the same time.

Please provide the details on your sound card.

Please run a DirectX Diagnostic:
Start menu –Run - then type Dxdiag, then select each tab across the top of the window, and run the tests on each tab. Then select “Save All Information” button in the lower right of the window. This will bring up a dialog box to allow you to select a name for the file where the information will be saved. You can save it right on the desktop as this will make it easy to find. Then copy the contents of that file from the start to the heading that says “DirectX components” then paste what you have copied into a post in this thread.

Okay you have several problems.

NUMBER 1
You are using VIA drivers which are KNOWN to be buggy as hell.
I did not even know they made anything for Intel chip set.

Bad news is you are running XP and there is nothing you can do about this short of replacing the MB. :(

The other things I notice is that your Video driver is out of date and your Audio driver is out of date.
Update those to the latest version may help somewhat.

Okay for you I suggest getting DirectX9.0B
Updatinfg your Video and Audio drivers.

I will take a look for you if i get a chance.

See if this link works for you?

Copy and paste it to a browser.

You mean in a music player, that is an alternative.

Well as long as everyone is happy. :D

Okay try turning down the sound acceleration. You can do that from the Dxdiag sound tab screen.

:)

So there is a chance the 3rd notch may work?

So you are having trouble with other games as well?

Try the forth Notch with CK.

Who is the publisher of your version, thier logo will be on the cd?

Also go to Start-Run- then type Msconfig.
Tell me what is listed under the start up tab.

Actually what I want you to do is disable ALL of them.
You should not need any of them.
When I mentioned shutting down all background programs these are what I was talking about.
Normally I have two things I allow to start up automatically, that is the MSOffice and a Quick loader.

You could try WinAmp.

Virus protection in the background is one of the leading causes of problems. ;)

The choice is yours.

That is up to you ofcourse, If I think of anything else I will post back here.
