Music sounds strange and "blopps"

Since the first time I first installed and played EU II the music has sounded very wrong. It makes a very, indeed very irritating blopping sound at every ring by high pitch instruments, suchs as high pich bells.
I have no problem playing the songs outside the game.

I have downloaded the latest drivers to my soundcard, "Sound Blaster Live!"

(might I add, I have the same problem with "Crusader kings", but not with "Hearts of Iron II")

You could try reducing the sound acceleration.
